I've had a pair of Fossil sunglasses for about 5 years that I paid $50 for. Last August, I sat on them and bent the hell out of them.

I finally got around to looking for new glasses and the only pair I found that I really liked was a pair of Raybans that cost $120! Is it just me or is that ridiculous for some metal and some glass?

Any good places to get sunglasses cheap?

optical glass is more expensive than plastic, so no, not really. go get some prescription glass lenses with frames that you like and see how much the cost is.

and 'sunglasses are sunglasses' can only be said by someone who has never had a good pair of sunglasses. the distortion and loss of focus in cheapies is very noticible. a good pair won't distort the light coming through the lens. and polarization = the win. sunglasses without polarization are almost pointless.

what's ridiculous is that you paid 50 bucks for fossil sunglasses.

You can find raybans for under $50 and up.
Not too sure how the selections would be, but it would definitely be a step up from Fossil.

Quality can really vary on cheaper sunglasses. Some last forever, some only last a couple weeks.

I used to think sunglasses were sunglasses, but I saw the light (so to speak). I'm shopping around for sunglasses in the $100-$150 range for the summer. My eyes are extremely sensitive to light and need a good pair of sunglasses to reduce the problems that go along with this, especially considering I have to drive every morning in the direction of the rising sun.

They were good glasses and they lasted 5 years (probably closer to 6 now). I really can't complain. Of course, Fossil made better glasses 5 years ago, now their top end is like $30.

I did find an online golf shop that had the Rayban's I liked for $75. May have to try there.

My Oakley Juliet sunglasses were a fortune but the quality of these sunglasses is amazing. The frame has not warped. The x-metal flex piece re-adjusts to make sure you always have a nice comfortable piece.

It just depends on what you like and what you?re willing to spend. I for one loved these glasses the day I tried them on and knew I had to have them. My friends told me I was insane for spending so much... but whatever... you only live once.

Go to the mall, and find the sunglass cart. You can get 2 pair for $25 at most of them. They have Nike and other name brands for a good price and the quality is just the same as Rayban or Oakley. The real reason some of the more expensive sun glasses cost so much is not because they are any better or cost any more to make, it's that those companies spend millions of $ in advertising and getting name brand recognition that people start believing that they are worth the extra $$. It's just like store brand vs name brand. It's made by the same people, just has a different name on it.

Check out Costco. I bought a pair of Raybans there that usually run $120 everywhere else for only $70.

Thanks for the tip. I went thru the sunglasses and saw a few I liked, but I really have to try on sunglasses before I buy them. I'm going to see if I can find them locally to try on first.

PSA folks... you're paying for the name.

Or, explain to me why the heck non-prescription polarized lenses should cost more than prescription polarized lenses.

There's a huge mark-up on glasses in the U.S. Plenty of middle-men, and, again, a lot of the time, you pay for the name on the frame.

partially... i've not seen anything like oakley sqaures (or their wires in general). I really like the straight arm design. And unfortunately, i need a Rx so.... money out the wazoo.
