So my gaming computer that I use on 20 year old games was having a problem. I7 920. Looking for replacement hardware, so far I found...
1) Athlon 245 dual core.
2) 2600k !
3) A quad core, I think like a C2Q 9400 ?? I have to fire it up.

And I have 2 1920x1200 LCD monitors that don't work correctly.

What a day. I don't even know what I am going to do with these. They are CPU/Motherboard/memory.

2600k gets my vote, especially if it comes with a good motherboard.

The I7 920 might actually be good. I found 2 different monitors (almost the same model) HannG 1920x1200, they would work OK for a bit, then go black. 2 with the same symptom ? I changed out everything trying to figure this out, but in the end it was the monitors. (I got one free, now I know why).

So I still have 4 good systems that I need to sell or find homes for. Oh, not to mention the E5-2683v3 that I bought a motherboard for (coming thursday) that I am giving away.

What games are you playing on that system? Because, 20 years, that's late Pentium III/early Pentium 4 or Athlon XP. Any of your listed systems is OK for those games. Personally, I'd choose the C2Q. The i5-2600K is sort of wasted on 20 years old games (unless you also run emulation on it, then take it). What OS are you using? XP I guess?

I just found an nvidia Quadro card ! I wish I had the power to power it up. Its an older single slot card, so probably of not much ppd anyway.
Dune 2000 is the game I play, it only runs on XP and older.

Time to sell that 2600k ! With the motherboard its worth almost $200.

Edit: Nvidia Quadro K4000, came out in 2013, on ebay for $30.

I still play C&C, I have the first decade CD.
Cool, that one includes Generals & Zero Hour  Played those endlessly via LAN...

Nice one! I still have my old X3350. Replaced it with an X5470 (modded it for socket 775 + modded the BIOS for CPU support) after a few years... Those were the days... :D
