Dang...I don't like Macs but.....

Thats the gayest thing I have ever seen. Did either of you watch the movie? That reporter seems to love it "It's brilliant mechanical engineering"... my arse.

Ok and what about that button-less power switch? So you mean if I put my hand neer the case on accident right in the middle of a defrag or burning a CD it will turn off on me?

If Apple would work on building innovative hardware instead of useless crap like this they may have a little better market. All this star trek stuff is just a load of useless crap. Apple when your computers can replace my NT and Linux servers performance wise I'll think about it.

It turns on and off by putting you hand near it?

That, coupled, with the buttonless mouse, are the most god damn stupidest things ive ever heard. What are they thinking over there?

WTF does everyone have against macs?

If PCs didn't have macs to compete with do you think we would be paying so "little" for our computers?

Also, I think the buttonless mouse is cool...some other innovations as well as the newbie computer (aka iMac/iBook) is a pretty good machine for novice computer users who don't frag the night away.

zippy

PCs don't compete with Macs. They compete with other PCs so your price argument doesn't work. This is most obvious when you consider that Apples remained consistently higher priced than PCs even though PCs were becoming far more advanced. Does that sound like competition to you?

a computer that's totally sealed like the macs are just sucks 🙂

zippy: we have the right to hate Mac's anyway 🙂 sure, they might have helped getting more userfriendly OS' and such, but those days are over, now mac's are just a plaque that should be eliminated 😉

and you don't love Rambus although they've probably pushed the development of DDR RAM a lot, do you? 😉

The cube looks like a japanese rice cooker. I can imagine the crap that will get into the case through those vents on the top. Apple's designs are neat, but they really gotta stop coming up with genius ideas that their previous gen mouse and keyboard, and that new buttonless mouse.

Their prices are nasty too. After market HD and Ram upgrades are a must, since they charge an arm and a leg for either.

If you don't like em, don't buy em. 😛

But, yes, they do compete with PCs...otherwise, we wouldn't have the E-Machines EOne, Gateway Astro, Compaq iPaq, Dell has one like the iPaq too. If they don't compete with PCs, how come their OVERALL market share gone from 4% when Steve Jobs originally took over to 12% in two years (its been 3 years now right? I dunno what they are at now...).

Personally, I like Macs. Though, I also like tweaking, building my own machines, and Windows (j/k about Windows. 😉). So the PC won out. I don't really play FPS...so that isn't a big deal. But games come out very late for them...Rainbow Six for Mac came out after Rogue Spear was out for the PC. Tomb Raider 3 for the mac came out after Tomb Raider 4 for the PC. Oh well...they are getting into gaming a bit now actually.

There is a 32MB DDR Radeon for the Mac. Matrox is getting into the mac scene...again. 3dfx started making vid cards for them last year. Halo has been announced for the Mac, but not PC.

I think some of this mac hate stems from the past...hell, bill gates uses an iMac! 😛 He sent out a press release...and from the header or whatever that has all that weird code...they (I dunno who!) figured out he was using an iMac to send it!

Hell, if I HAD to buy a premade machine and money was not an issue...I would seriously consider a mac (now, not a month ago.). Why? 32MB DDR Radeon+500MHz G4 sounds good to me. Plus...HALO! :Q Heck, I could always get that Windoze emulator thingy...works fairly well, I've used it before.

Don't worry, I'm not a mac head. 😀 I love my tweaking of, building of, helping with, chatting about, inexpensiveness of, and better supported PCs. 😀

Edit: Ok, I got a lil overzealous on the smilies...they are for Prodigy^ cuz I know he likes em so much.

If money weren't an issue, I would pick up a mac to use for my photoshop and maybe my flash work.

But then again, if money weren't an issue, I'd have a T3 pipe coming to my house, my own jet, an army, and really hot chicks (or whores) all over my place, plus a whole lot of other crap too.

mmmmmmm......moooneeeeeeyyyyyy..... 😛

Well, they say the Cube is upgradeable to 1.5 GB of RAM...anyways, it would be killer if they put in an ATI Radeon instead of the Rage 128. 🙂

I still don't understand how they put so much components in a small box without any fans to cool it....

Is that a can? Sure looks like one. 😀

<< hell, bill gates uses an iMac! He sent out a press release...and from the header or whatever that has all that weird code...they (I dunno who!) figured out he was using an iMac to send it! >>

lol! f*cking guy. 😉

Next thing you tell me he runs Linux on that machine. lol 😉 😀 😛

"PCs don't compete with Macs. They compete with other PCs so your price argument doesn't work."

lmao...that's almost like saying the playstation doesn't compete with the nintendo 64....you;re damn right they do.

Ever been in a college dorm?

SSP, I'm not joking at all about that iMac. My biology teacher and I talked computers sometimes this year and he showed me something about that iMac thing. 🙂

How could you upgrade that thing AT ALL! What happens when you need a new motherboard! Your going to like have to special order one w/the "SENSORY PLASTIC" gosh that video was worthless!

<< WTF does everyone have against macs? >>

Well, to start with theres no upgradebility. Second of all, its only capable of PC100 SDRAM w/ no PC133, PC150, DDR or RAMBUS in sight. Thirdly, our school has them on the network. To load Anandtech it takes 15 minutes (no joke) unless you use a real new one. That and they crash every 80 minutes (some more some less but its close enough). That and when they do you need a freakin' PAPER CLIP to restart the new ones! Finally, look at the price. $3500 on a system gets you 500 Mhz, 16MB of SGRAM, no SCSI options and tons more. I could go on for days but then I'd get a cramp. There are my reasons.

I don't like the fact they integrate USB, FireWire, and power into a single proprietary cable that plugs into the G4 Cube unit. That's kinda nasty.....

Aftermarket anything is almost a must with Macs....their factory hardware prices remind me of how much car dealerships rip you off to get a CD changer installed.

As for upgradability, you must remember that Macs are in a totally different league than PCs....Mac users seem to have different ideas on what a computer should be. I mean, that's the only possible way I can see diehard Mac fanatics shelling out thousands of dollars for their self-proclaimed "super computers." I will admit that the G4 is a very fast product, but they have to stop comparing it to PCs running Photoshop plugins. I'll bet you that Apple and their supporters are too afraid to show competitors anything else.

If competition is what drives down price, and Macs compete with PCs, the when did Macs only recently begin to come down in price?

I don't know how you can say Macs aren't hot. They have the best designs in the business, which isn't saying that much, as, well, they're the only designers in the business. I'm waiting for PC makers to realize that ergonomics are as important as MHz if you're trying to sell computers to non-computer people. I don't know about you guys & gals, but I'm put off by how ugly most PCs are and how much noise they make. That new cube is phat. It's a pleasure to look at. It's non-intrusive, both in terms of space and sound. And while I'm with most power users in that I don't really like the Mac OS for how it's built, it's still a pretty friendly OS running on some pretty hardware. Kudos to Apple for having some taste.

yes, but half of the cost is the case leaving only half to hardware, there are some really nice cherry wood cases around the net, but they are like $150 for a mid tower...lots of people have also made their own clear plexiglass cases too.

BoberFett (or can I call you Mr. Fett? 😉 )

take the millions and millions (rocky..rocky! 😉 ) of kids going to college for their frshman year. ALmost 90% of them will have their parents by them a computer or laptop of some sort. Who do you think buys the most IMac's? College kids.

That's competetion...regardless of demographic.

Dont ya think?
