I was born/raised in LA, and live in SD.

I've been to many places around the US and in Asia, but really, there is one place where I'd be glad to call a 2nd home (more like spring/summer home rofl...snow! nooo! no snow!! haha).

And that is Chicago.

My brother lives in Chicago, so this labor day weekend, was my fourth time visiting this beautiful city.

One thing that stands out like insane is the people. I've never encountered a large group of such nice and down-to-earth people anywhere.

Why are you guys so nice? Why are you guys so real? Man, come to LA, and you'd be sick of the intense poser-ism within minutes.. but I love LA. I can't help it. Well, I love SD more..haha. SD isn't that bad though, hehe. ya, so you people coming to CA, come to SD! SF is too..well, you know. LA is too poserific. :p

You guys have such a small-town feel for such a huge huge town. I went to the summer fireworks thing tonight out on the lake. That is so cool to have the a city-wide event to celebrate summer.

You guys have that tastes of Chicago thing as well. Of course, SD has its events, but most everyone has their own events amongst their own circles. I think it's so cool to have city-wide events with that small-town feel to it.

I may have been brainwashed by the nice weather Chicago has been getting this weekend, but hell..I'm addicted to the people already. This place is just like SD (people-wise) minus the weather.

The city's skyline from the lake is one of the most stunning skylines in the world IMO.

Usually when I walk the streets of downtown LA or NY or Philly, I feel a bit apprehensive. In Chicago, for some reason, I don't feel as threatened. Of course that is not to say that Chicago is not devoid of crime, but I just love the vibe this city gives off.

But ya... If I ever can afford a summer home, it'll be in Chicago. (Illinois sucks still though :p. Only Chicago is Illinois' saving grace. One thing though...it's tooo flat!!! gaah!!! why!!)

Everytime I would touch down in SD, I would smile like INSANE because i'd be so glad that I am back home to my lovely SD. But now, this being my 4th time i'll leave Chicago on tuesday morning, I will be sad to leave. This will be the first time I'll feel this way. I guess 4th time's a charm. I never felt that way for any place in the US.

You're giving off a Vibe too. Kinda like, "I like this place!" vibe, except almost manic. The needle on my Ramble Meter is now bent, thanks a lot.

Just don't go there in January or February. And O'Hare is the worst airport in the country...I hate flying into O'Hare.

just say no to states that don't border the ocean. :frown:

apparently you've never seen the great lakes (except on a map), they're pretty god damn big. Lake Michigan is as close to a fresh water - soft sandy beach ocean as you're gonna get..

i lived there for 4 years and i was happy to come back to CA.

did a consulting gig in SD for 4 months, and I'd say SD hands down wins. But I'm still NorCal

Just came back from a weekend trip last night and loved it. The last time I went there was when I was 9 and didn't recall it much (I'm 27). Nice restaurants, shopping, parks, and most of all it was a nice place just to wander around. I'm likely going back in December to spend a few days and visit the musuems. I know its cold but I'm from Detroit so I'll be used to it... Any jobs for civil engineers in Chicago? I'm there LOL.

I used to like Chicago because of the freedom to do so many things, but lately I've actually been pretty happy with Indiana, not sure if I'd like to ever move away.

I've seen them... mostly, I've got nothing but contempt for states that weren't part of the original colonies (that's right, screw you, Maine!), but I make an exception for the west coast :p

Typical "friendly" East coaster attitude....

Chicago is great, but the weather is so bad that I would not ever consider living there. Try visiting again in a couple months and report back. Oh, and O'hare is unquestionably the worst airport in the country (the public transit system also leaves some to be desired).

Love the city and the people. Hate the weather. It's only nice in the summertime and short periods in the spring and fall. In the winter you'll freeze your ass off.

I love driving through the city and going for a cruise along Lake Shore Drive. Spent 4 years at NU and appreciated Chicago was nearby.

It's not really fair to judge Chicago by the summer weather, it's the time to visit. I lived there most of my life (not anymore) and you have to experience the winter before making a judgment.

Also, i was just in chicago last week, and it was very nice. Millenium park was really pretty, and the random free concerts they have were a blast. And the chrome bean was cracking me up.

The first thing i noticed when i moved away from chicago was the general attitude of the people everywhere else.

For some reason people in chicago are substantially "friendlier" than anywhere else ive lived (17 other cities, some in the UK).

I hated the weather, but i miss living in chicago every day.

Heres hoping i can pick up a job with 3com, Seagate, or Motorola when i graduate :D

Edit: is the bridge on the Ryan Expressway finished yet?

lmao, that things been under contruction for a decade now.

Graduated from NU in '06...still miss the city. Hope I can get back for Residency.
