Dandruff...

Okay, I don't get why it's such a big issue for me and other people but it freaks me out. I've used Selsun Blue and Head and Shoulders but they don't seem to do a damn thing. Selsun Blue seems to do more than H&S but I still get those dread flakes. :disgust::| Does the water you use have an impact on it? My water tends to be hard so I was curious if this was playing a factor.

Embarassing story: Today the hottest girl I have ever known brushed the dandruff off my black shirt today, I was totally humiliated and just wanted to be dead. Damn Selsun Blue and Head and Shoulders, you guys don't do jack.

<----Thinking about shaving his head due to the paranoia of dandruff

She's kind of a friend. I mean I kind of told her that I was better off not talking to her last year because I was getting so damn upset I just couldn't have her and sh!t. (Gave her a cookie on V-Day ;) ) But other than that, I think she desires to be a friend, she's a nice person all around spare the fact she's an atheist. :disgust: But yeah, I hate dandruff, disgusting sh!t.

I had a lot of dandruff problems when I was at my parents house (very hard water), the shampoo I used had no impact on it.

Now that I don't live there any more, I no longer have the problem.

While I can't say 100% that the water is what caused it, but it sure seemed like it. When I was away for even just a week the problem went away, and returned when I was back using the same water.

You might try asking a doctor if there's anything you can do about it.

Other than that, make sure you lather the shampoo in really well and make sure you rinse really well.

Try some benadryl. You're probably reacting to something in the shampoo or the water. If thats not it then perhaps your diet is too short on something, or your body is unable to synthesize something. Your doctor can do a test that costs about $300 and tell you specifically if your body is producing the correct vitamins or not. You can also try lotion since hair is made up of virtually the same tissue as skin, but be careful it will leave your hair greasy if you use too much.

I sometimes get it, on and off, I don't know why

Use Nutrogena T-gel, works great for me.
use the extra strength, or the "anti itch" one, just cus it has menthol in it, and it feels like your whole scalp is covered in ice, while your in this steaming hot shower....feels really cool :)

you shouldn't have to use this stuff everyday either.
use it, then use a shampoo, then use some good conditioner, otherwise it will strip your hair of its natural juices pretty bad

try the t-gel as jimmy said. my lil bro had dry scalp or something, and the doctor told him to use the t-gel. seems like it worked since he hasnt been back to the doctor yet.

and try not to wear back as much..

Sorry for the OT, but actually, I'd consider that a big, big plus :)

The few times that I've gotten any significant dandruff, Selsun Blue (extra medicated) has worked well. You know that feeling when you eat a handful of Altoids, and then drink a Coke? Selsun Blue makes your scalp feel like that...

There are several known root causes of dandruff. I did read an article which said that YEAST can cause persistent dandruff in some cases, so you have to use this stuff that kills fungus and yeast. You can try the OTC stuff but if that doesn't help after a couple weeks then try asking your doctor.

Washing with hot water only dries your skin out more.

As a hairstylist,my recommendation is go to a Salon and ask them for an anti-dandruff shampoo. Your skin and hair pH's are 4.2-4.5, so you want a shampoo that is the same. The drug store one's which claim to be pH balanced are actually 7 much higher therefore more drying. Proffessional shampoo's are the way to go, and ask about returning it if it's not working for you, they should be guaranteed at a salon. Hope this helps!:D

I've got dandruff to, though it's sparatic, sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not.....i find that it's mostly in the hot weather...like now, i have it......grrrr......it helps to not stay on the same anti-dandruff shampoo for too long, it seems whatever causes it becomes "immune" to it and it doesn't work as well, so switch around alot and it "keeps it on it's toes".......i know what you mean, man it sucks!!

You may have a more severe scalp condition, such as sebhorreic dermatitis or psoriasis.
Nizoral, Pentrax(what I use), T-gel, T-sal, MG217 are all options

Only shave your head if you can look as sexy as Patrick Stewart.

Otherwise see a doctor or at least dermatologist.

I've heard that Nizoral works great.
