Dance question

What's the name of that dance where you see on TV all the time with the couple is very close, during a slow, romantic song? Ballroom dance? Waltz? Eh...probably not. Anyone know?

Edit: Ok, it's usually at some fancy, formal dance, or at the end of prom. The guy's one hand is at her waist, and the other is holding her hand, which is held away from the body. You see it all the time on TV...maybe there's more than one kind of dance where it's like that? I dunno. And usually the guy leads.

I was naming them original in my post just to form ideas - I don't think they're those though.

Come on geeks, it's not like some of you never tried to woo a girl before. How about I give you guys the info and you can help me choose which to learn.

I like this girl and I'm trying to impress her by being romantic. I'm planning to pick up a slow dance that's easy to learn, and is easy enough for the girl to follow along if the guy leads (i.e. the girl probably doesn't know how to dance either), and would go great with a rythmic somewhat and upbeat, but romantic song. Any suggestions?

Oh, and I'm probably gonna try to sing that song too So expect a "how to sing" thread soon.

Its always the "slow dance" to me . Where you described you put your hand on her waist while you hold her hand in yours away from the body. This could also lead to where she puts her arms around your neck and either lays her head on your shoulder or you guys make out .

But from your description you could ballroom dance from the description you've proved I think.

If you're old enough and in the city, see if you can find like a swing, tango, salsa, cha-cha club and bring her there. I believe they give free lessons early in the evening with skilled partners. Then once you get the hang of it you and your date can dance the night away.
