I'm a sox fan though, and I personally wouldn't be booing...for these reasons:
1. Damon has more at-bats with teams that are NOT the sox...why would he suddenly have loyalty to one team when he hasn't even een there long?
2. His range has been steadily declining for several years to the point where it no longer covers his 12 year old boy's arm, we're better off with Crisp. (younger, faster, better arm, better range, better hitter).
3. The Yankees paid 10 mil/year for him. He'll be decent this year, but the next several years you basically have bernie williams out there in center again.
4. He doesn't seem like a great guy.....i mean he cheated on his first wife then blamed her for it in a book...did anyone think he'd actually turn down more money from the yankees? He's obviously not a character guy.
5. A coupel years ago the sox let everyone know that 'Tek was their priority, they basically rolled out hte red carpet for him, to resign him. They did no such thing with Damon.
It's not that he left, it's that he left for the YANKEES. Also, as you know as a Sox fan, Damon was not just another player, he was the face of the team, he was a cult hero.Originally posted by: Accipiter22

Crisp is younger, true. Faster, perhaps, but debateable, Damon can still go get it, and can still steal bases. Better arm? yes, probably. Better range? Again, debateable. Better hitter? No fvcking way. Crisp hit 300 ONCE and never hit over 300. Damon is one of the best leadoff hitters in the game.2. His range has been steadily declining for several years to the point where it no longer covers his 12 year old boy's arm, we're better off with Crisp. Remains to be seen, but probably not true. Bernie was never a great defensive outfielder.3. The Yankees paid 10 mil/year for him. He'll be decent this year, but the next several years you basically have bernie williams out there in center again.
Easy to say now, BoSox fans loved the hell out of him until he went to the Yankees.4. He doesn't seem like a great guy.....i mean he cheated on his first wife then blamed her for it in a book...did anyone think he'd actually turn down more money from the yankees? He's obviously not a character guy.
Exactly, which is why he left. They made no effort to resign him. Reminds me of what the Yankees did with Pettitte.5. A coupel years ago the sox let everyone know that 'Tek was their priority, they basically rolled out hte red carpet for him, to resign him. They did no such thing with Damon.
Spoken (uninteliigibly, I might add) like your average brain dead Sox fan. At least, Accipiter made some fair, intelligent and interesting points (though debatable, which is what it's all aboutOriginally posted by: j00fek

Oh please, everybody is a greedy bastard and there's nothing wrong with it. The Yankees felt that they needed him more than Boston did so they upped the offer. If Boston felt that they wanted to keep him as much as the Yanks wanted him they would've matched the offer. They did not make an effort to keep him, according to Damon.Originally posted by: AStar617

Boston's offer was 4 years, $40M. New York's offer was 4 years, $52M.
Seriously, what can't you get with $10 million a year that you can with $13 million? Especially as an established player who has already made in excess of $45 million thus far in his career?
99% of the players are greedy bastards, and Damon is one of them. In the eyes of Sox Nation, his act of walking away from a perfectly legitimate, non-insulting offer to go to the Yankees, of all teams, is the equivalent of crossing a picket line. I will always appreciate what he helped us achieve, but that might not prevent me from getting some boos in at the game tonight![]()
This is a good point. I'm not sure we'd be calling developers and DBAs greedy bastards for changing jobs to get a better salary. I realize they're not making millions of dollars a year as ballplayers are, but they are trying to maximize their income potential.Originally posted by: ThePresence

It's very easy for us to sit here and say we would turn up our noses at $12 million dollars.

Those are actually good reasons to boo.
