Damnit I couldn't stop myself: bought my first set of legos in years

Anything you don't use at least twice a week is a waste of money. Right now, my PS3 is borderline waste of money 'cause I only use it to watch movies and TV shows maybe once a week, and download free stuff on PSN once a week.

I figure a movie lasts 2 hours and will cost me and the wifey approximately 18 dollars not including food.

Some guy on that message board spent 15 hours building it.

Thus, me and the wifey COULD go see movies for 4 hours of time, or spend about 7-8 hours building this set.

Srsly, mister baked, doesn't getting stoned as fuck and building a 1200 piece tie fighter sound AWESOME? Because that's exactly what we're gonna do.

This is why you need kids... I;ve spent the last 4 birthdays. Christmases, <insert holiday or special treat here> building legos with my kids... You can live vicariously through them 🙂. My son's room is OFFICIALLY completely full of Legos.

Dude, where'd that piece go? Oh, man, I think I ate it!

what happened to legos? they are now more of a model kit than a fun toy to spark your imagination.

I always built the thing on the box once, and then took it apart and used it with my other legos.

I was thinking the same thing. When I was a kid playing with these, (late 80s) I never made the actual model it was designed for and parts were so non specific usually that it never mattered about mixing and matching. These new generation of legos look more like replications more then free thinking construction pieces.

I still have all of my old Legoland Space System stuff. I thought about getting the Star Destroyer, but what I really want is one of the Mindstorm robotics sets.

Yea, I agree. I got into Lego around the same time, and I started off by following the instructions for the sets. Then I found I didn't like certain aspects of the designs, so I modified them and added new rooms, staircases, garages, trap doors, cockpits, etc.

Eventually I discovered it was more fun to just build whatever the hell I wanted. My best piece (and I actually built this when I was 20 or 21 LOL 😛) was a massive 3-foot tall tower/fortress built on one of the "ice force" bases with the ramp. It had a garage, rotating cannon, staircases, windows and multiple levels with balconies. So awesome.

So much fun...must retrieve Lego from my parent's storage room...

I loved building Legos when I was younger.

Off the top of my head, the sets I built stuff from:
Space Police
Blactron
Ice Planet
Unitron
Exploriens
Pirates
various Firefighter sets

15 hours to put that set together?? It took me about 90 minutes to put that set together and I was watching a movie at the same time. If you separate out all the pieces by color before you start it takes no time to put a set like that together.

I would agree. 15 hours is like putting one piece on every 45 seconds. I hate to tell you this, but if you're averaging significantly more than 15 seconds per piece, you'd better be doing it underwater while floating in a cloud of the pieces.
