Do a survey about the following words/phrases and see the exact same thing happen:

"Catalytic converter"
"Alternator"
"Voice coil"
"Capacitor"
"Deglaze"
"Fricassee"
"Ballast"
"Balustrade"

This isn't about the ignorance of the general public about "computer stuff", this is people not knowing words/phrases related to something they have no deeper interest in than simple usage.
