Damnit AOL! (Trillian Related)

First time this has happened. I connect with Trillian and get this message:

"AOL Instant Messenger: You have been disconnected from the AOL Instant Message Service (SM) for accessing the AOL network using unauthorized software. You can download a FREE, fully featured, and authorized client, here http://aol.com/aim/download2.html"

Then it disconnects me.

Damnit. Using trillian is soo much nicer because I use ICQ, Yahoo INstant Messenger, MSN instant messenger, and AOL. Better than loading each individually.

It's all about the ads on the AIM Client. They make money of them, and if everyone uses trillian they wont. Its all about the money.

Yeah, I really like the UI of Trilian. I hated how AOL or MSN wouldn't work once and while and I'd have to download a patch.

I would have liked them to have left ICQ alone and not turn it into total bloatware with ads attached (and doing it with automatic upgrades that were not authorized). I consider getting AIM and ICQ back without ads my personal payback. 😉

ICQ 2000 and previous don't have ads and don't auto update...
 
Have you heard of Miranda ICQ? It's a bloat-free implementation of ICQ. It's nearly featureless, just the way I like it 🙂.

but, as with everything else with Miranda, if you want it and can code: make a plugin for it.

argh aol is pissing me off even more now, i got the same logoff prob using trillian. aol needs to back off...they need to learn from trillian, and make a program/service thats actually good
 
Arg! AOL is being retarded! I tried connecting again after getting the message, but they log me back off within like three minutes. I connected a few more times, but each time, they log me off like before :|

Oh, and if AOL loves those ads, they're being retarded...disabling the ad on AIM client is piece of cake 😉

You just don't get it, do you?Trillian in essence is a crack for a legitimate program (AIM). AIM and the network that supports it was made to make money, not so you could have a free means of distance communication. When people stop using AIM in favor of something like trillian, AOL stops getting money from it and it dies.

Personally I'm surprised AIM ever came about, as one of AOL's original incentives was instant messenger and AIM lets people use it without subscribing to AOL...well, that's where the ads come in of course...
 
How many of these things are we going to see?? We all know that Trillian has problems because of AOL's working against it. Get over it. Get used to it. Go on with life using AIM and Trillian.

Although this is true, a poll from ZDNet has shown that about 75% or so of the people are in favor of the little guy (Cerulean, who makes Trillian). This 3/4 of the people think that Trillian is right in this instance since it is fulfilling a large need...ie having one client to "integrate" the vast IM networks. Who'd want AT&T phone service if they couldn't call someone using Bell phone service?

Yeah, and those people are stupid for thinking they should get it for free. The idea of a client that integrates all of them is fine, but they should come to an agreement with the network creators then.

I don't see why people can't just use one client on one network.
 
Just wanted to update and let everyone know that we are aware of the latest AIM block and are actively working on a solution.

Also, please note that if you're receiving "Not supported by client" errors on ICQ to make sure both ends are using patch "C".
