Damn!

:|

Being a college student, I obviously have many, many holes to pour money through, but none to fill.

Basically, I'm broke as a joke, 24-7, and it's been this way for years.

Finally, a break - a person calls, and asks about private lessons for the martial arts school I teach at. If he joins, it's not a lot, but sure, it'll help me out of my rut greatly . . ..

Well, I got an email from him today. Turns out that there's no way that he can afford to have private lessons. :| bleh!

This was on last night's Family Guy episode on TBS... I guess someone was watching? 😉

I"m the office manager for the said martial arts studio. I control/keep track of all the finances that come in/go out though the school, which is the state's HQ.

Having said that, our building, even though it's the state HQ, has just moved, and it's in the middle of nowhere (college town), so I know that they cannot afford to just throw money at me (as nice as it'd be 🙁).

Yeah, so you'd know that $30/hr. is a friggin' bargain - but then again he's a cop so he's not rolling in dough either . . . but it's a letdown. 🙁

If I were you, I'd start looking for more alternatives, IT field, etc as backups.
Connections with friends and relatives really help.

IT? You've got to be kidding . . . my brother does all that computer stuff, in fact, he's the one who told me about here (but I'm not going to tell you who it is! 😉

Anyhow, I'm about as far away from knwoing anything about IT as it gets.

$30hr is cheap depending on your skill level and the art in which you are training. I teach wing chun gung fu (better known as jeet kune do which bruce lee invented..although his is a mixture of many arts) and im very picky about who i teach. i teach one person at a time and its not cheap.

Wing Chun is NOT JKD - what the hell?

Incidentally, I teach Wing Tsun Kung Fu. And that's hella cheap for what it's worth. Unfortunately, farm country isn't exactly conductive to a healthy martial arts community . . ..

actually it is. bruce lee took wing chun, fencing, boxing, and his own thoughts into making jeet kune do

Yeah . . . uh, which branch of Wing Chun are you teaching, exactly?

Can you tell me your lineage?

If you're saying stuff like that, I"m guessing you're not under GM Leung Ting or GM Emin Boztepe - hell, even William Cheung, ridiculous as his Wing Chun is, wouldn't say that?! 😕

(and this will very soon hurtle towards the inevitable debate involving nomitave arguments I realize, if not there already)

if you dont believe me go to jeet kune do's official site jeetkunedo.org i believe. and you will see that it explains the art behind jkd. jkd is actually more of a way of life than an art...but in making it bruce lee used the arts i spoke above. i trained with none of your masters. i trained with dan inosanto...if you do not know who he is then you shouldnt speak of jkd. he is the only person bruce lee himself ever left jkd to and trained entirely the art of jkd. i trained with this man for 6 years before i moved and went to college for my ba in computer science. he has since stopped teaching..there are some trainers around the country but they are only people who have read books and think they know jkd. they are not true masters and do not deserve the right to have a licsense.

If you've learned from Dan Inosanto, who is a JKD master, then how/why are you justifying you teaching your style as Wing Chun? Granted, I have not learned JKD in-depth as you have, but I'm not foolish enough to say that I teach JKD or dismiss it as the same as Wing Chun; depending on how you see it, that's just beligerant ignorance and you're effectively belittling both the styles. That's just ridiculous.

i must correct one thing. Taky Kimura is actually ranked above dan inosanto in jkd. he is ranked 7th while dan is ranked 6th. only person to hold the rank of 8 forever will be bruce himself. Taky being the highest ranked senior is doesnt have to train.

you misunderstand me...jkd cannot be taught. as i said jkd is a way of life..not a martial art style. bruce lee said it himself. but the styles behind jkd come from bruces extensive training in kickboxing, jun fan, wing chun gung fu, boxing, etc

Ok, I'll make this an easy question then: within your "Wing Chun", how long does it take for yout student to get to a level high enough to learn Biu Tze (alternatively called Bil Jee)?
