And all because Steam had it for $10 and it was posted in Hot Deals. I spent 8 hours playing it yesterday. AHHHHHHHHH. :D

To anyone else, if you like Deus-Ex/System Shock 2, or even Splinter Cell, you'll love this game.

I don't have the fortitude to keep starting it over due to the crazy haunted beach house. I mean, I COULD get through it but I don't want to. Great game though, too bad it used a wonky version of the source engine.

True, and initially getting to the Nosferatu warrens is a bitch once your shotgun runs out of ammo and you're too deep to get more, and you have to deal with those 15' tall tri-crawler things that can strike so fast you won't even get one swing in H2H.

Yeah I hated those things. Did you ever encounter the Society of Leopold crash? I think that was one of the things that made me have to restart if I remember correctly.

I picked it up for the $10 weekend too, and I have to say it's well lived up to the years of hype I've been hearing now. Very awesome!

There is a trick to those double-headed guys in the sewer, they don't always attack if you can get behind them. They also seem to have a panic mode were you can attack as they run away.

Stealth kills with a katana were a lot of fun in this game. I killed half the slayers in the Society of Leopold quest with the ol' creep-n-skewer

Beware, Wesp's patch increases the difficulty for stealth so you need several more points in it to succeed. With the tessmage "ttue" patch I was doing a lot more sneaking than in my current playthrough with Wesp's 5.x

it was a very good game...fun and interesting story...very cool to be a vampire

the combat was a little clunky and the ending(s) really were inadequate

they could have really altered the story/ending and made it really cool...would love to see a sequel

Excellent game, but a buggy mess. Install the last official patch and the latest community patch (two major ones to pick from) before you try to play it.

Activision needs to learn that downsizing half a developers staff half-way through production is not a good way to help them meet deadlines, even if you make the deadlines sooner.

Yup amazing game. One of my favorites - it's a shame that it was released in such a buggy state. Even with all of the bugs it's still better than 90% of the crap that comes out these days...

That information appears to be out of date, at least on the first page. The latest Unofficial Patch from Wesp is 5.7.

Also, for those of you running in Vista 64 with 4GB of RAM or more, there is an issue with extremely blurry, low res textures. There's a DLL in the Bloodlines directory that needs to be altered with a Hex editor to change some of the calls to resolve this. This thread at the Steam forums details it and the solution. Someone posted an already altered dll file.

It's a great classic CRPG game. I here there is a project to port over the game to the Source engine by a group of fans.

Good game, but buggy as hell. It crashes on when I try to feed on two of my desktops, but not my laptop. I've tried various 3rd party patches, but no dice on the desktops.

But still, it's a good game

It's up to date alright - the link goes to 5.7 and the thread title says 5.7.

AFAIK Wesp's patches include this fix.

Okay, does anyone know if Wesp's patch removes the skill books you can buy from Trip's Pawn Shop in the very beginning?

Last time I played it, it did. But you can find them pretty early in the game.

Ah, ok. I was glancing at a walkthrough this time around and it mentions buying said books at the pawn shop.

It's actually quite playable with the final retail patch, and IIRC, the unofficial 'patches' are much much more mods then patches.

That's true of Wesp's patch but Tessmage's patch only has fixes for things like scripting bugs.

Ok, when you follow the link, it has patches for multiple versions including the most current. The link in the thread still says 5.4 though.

The 5.7 patch is supposed to include a fix for the Vista 64 texture issue, but it doesn't work for everyone, as evidenced by the large number of people on the Steam forums having trouble . . .most of whom seem to be good to go with the hex edit fix of the shaderapidx9.dll.
