Damn work installed network filters

We recently received an email from our director of IT that they were going to install new filters to prevent/eliminate non-business related network usage. Knowing the issues they were going through I had no problems with this until it directly affected me.

When I first started I was issued a BlackBerry, but since I already owned a BlackBerry Storm I asked if I could just use my personal phone to receive work-related email. They gladly allowed me to do so and I set it up. Now I pay for the service as it is my personal phone, but I can no longer browse filtered sites under their new permissions.

I would not have a problem with this if they were paying the bill, but I find it outrageous that I am restricted yet still paying the bill. :disgust:

They changed the rules. Get a work phone.

Hm I'm confused how a blackberry network works. Isn't your blackberry on a separate network since you pay for the service separately and not the company? don't you just forward work related stuff addressed to their systems on your personel phone? I never had a blackberry so forgive me.

In either case, you should bring it up at your next meeting. Ill be there to route for you out in the parking lot.

Yeah I'm not understanding this either. Even if it's your BlackBerry, if you're still using a work network to access the internet, I don't see why you shouldn't be subject to their filtering. Now if you have a personal data plan for your phone and access the internet that way, you should be allowed to do whatever you want (as long as you're getting your work done and not just neffing all day).

I just found out that only the BlackBerry browser is filtered. The only reason I use the work network is for my work email. Turns out Opera Mini works without any issues.

Service Books and a Blackberry Enterprise Server. They can do what they want to that blackberry if OP setup his Blackberry on their BES. But if Opera works for it then good for you OP. But they should also be able to allow an individual user exemptions from those filters on the BES.

Our work place needs websense BADLY. Instead they want to go with this piss poor solution that goes by static IP. Basically DHCP range will be blocked access and special static ranges wont. Yeah, that's secure alright. It's easy to change a static. Then again the staff there are clueless about PCs. If an Icon for their program is not on the desktop they call the help desk saying "my computer wont boot up".
