Holy crap! 31 % creationism in Alberta et 39 % in Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan is even worse than Alberta.

I wonder if the fact that so many in western Canada descend from a large American immigration around the beginning of the 20th century has anything to do with our Canadian rationalism being so corrupted by this creationist nonsense. Those cowboys carried that literal nonsense with them across the border. Their descendants bring our national average down to 61% only favoring evolution, making our country as a whole look dumb as heck.:(

In the United States, almost half of respondents (47%) believe that God created human beings in their present form within the last 10,000 years, while one-third (35%) think human beings evolved from less advanced life forms over millions of years.
Remember to be good, and Santa will bring you presents.

Alberta does have a huge American Immigrant Base. Hell, all my Mom's side of the Family came from Pennsylvania back in the early 1900's and went to Alberta. Despite that, I think the issue is less about Where the Immigrants came from and more to do with the more Rural/Agricultural structure of Prairie Society. Church/Religion play a much bigger role as a place for Socialization in such sparsely populated areas. At least Traditionally anyway.

You also have large French(direct from France--one of my uncles is one), German(Mennonites), Ukranian/Russian?(Hutterites), and perhaps other Religious Sects who settled in the Prairies to escape Persecution in their Home Lands(not the French though). They mostly stuck together forming Communes in order to preserve their Beliefs.

Anyone who believes in creationism is an idiot, and deserves to be beaten. Creationism is the result of religious fools attempting to fit their idiotic beliefs in a scientific society. It is unfortunate that many parents brainwash their children into believing this garbage. It would be best to simply wipe them all off the face of this planet. There is no room for foolishness anymore. Everyone knows this.

Cry a river, but the biggest supporters of such an Idea were way out here in BC. Personally I had no problem with it. We stayed out of Iraq for good reason

I hope you're being sarcastic, because that mindset is possibly even worse than that of the people that supposedly need to be "[wiped] all off the face of this planet".

Honestly, I agree 110% with the flyingporkchop on this. People who believe in creationism are complete fucking batshit insane idiots.

Unfortunately, the stupid seems to be spreading.

But if the religion in question were Catholicism or Anglicanism, we wouldn't have this problem. It's not just the greater influence of religion in rural areas but the religions that came with these particular immigrants. They brought with them radical reformist evangelism and such backward crap.

Why can't both of these be correct? As I see it they are. God CREATED using EVOLUTION as the tool.

They're not stupid, they've just been deceived from an early age, its not easy to let something like that go after several decades of belief in something so strong.

We just can't afford to be as intolerant as they are, otherwise we're really no better.

What? Evolution is a tool?

I have as much claim to using evolution as a "tool" as God does, since we a both equally active members.

Nonsense. The God you believe in is just one of many who will be forgotten. Do you believe in Zeus? Quetzalcoatl? Ra? No, you don't. You don't believe in them because they are Gods of dead religions. The fools who worshipped them were wrong. Their Gods controlled nothing. Just as the Christian God controls nothing. Religion is a sanctuary of ignorance, and must be abandoned. Everyone knows this.
