Damn USB Cable!

So I spent this whole afternoon attempting to installing an HP Officejet J4580 printer on my mother's Mint 9 x64 system. It worked a few weeks ago but stopped working this afternoon when she went to print something. I assumed it was a driver issue since sudo usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0 returned a valid ID. The printer would just hang at "processing" and do nothing. I spent this whole afternoon troubleshooting and eventually installed a virtualbox xp machine to test it out. Turned out THAT didn't detect the printer either. I then replaced the USB cable and voila it worked!

I got FIOS last week with their free wireless router, now I need no silly usb cable for my printer 🙂.
Least you found it though, half the people out there would probably go buy a new printer, or take it in for repair.
