<< its not tragic. it may be a shame, a loss, a catastrophe, but it is not tragic. tragic involves a tragic flaw. there is none here. >>

i suggest you look the term up in the dictionary.

How innocent were they if they fired at US troops?

looks like veryape's not answering...

i don't know if they're legally innocent, but if the article is right, and they were pro-u.s. and this was just a mix-up, i think it's sad.

<< How about trying to HELP the Afghan people, for starters? The air drops weren't nearly enough, as emergency officials clearly stated.

Terrorism plays off the anti-American sentiment and therefore is supported by a majority of the people. Instead of fighting a symptom (terrorism) I think we should go for the cause instead.

Right...so to protect America from terror, we need to make sure that everyone from Algeria through the Middle East and all the way to the southern islands of the Philippines has at least enough to eat.

Hell, let's just make them all middle class and educated. Would that stop terrorism?

Well, not really...if you consider that most of the 19 Sept. 11

So I guess just making them all middle class wouldn't be enough. I guess we need to go over there and make sure everyone's a millionaire? Would that stop terrorism?

Maybe not...remember Osama Bin Laden and his $25 million? Wasn't enough to keep him out of terrorism...

<< The reason why they hate us so much is because we pulled out of Afghanistan after the Russians left after we promised to help them establish a government and stability. >>

Are you really sure about that? There's 100 reasons why they hate us...If that's true, then why do Pakistanis hate us then? Why do French people hate us? Why do people from

<< The Taliban is a result of that. >>

The Taliban *was* the result of some Pakistani-inspired folks taking advantage of the situation

this kind of thing is damn near unavoidable as long as we have armed troops doing a job there. seems US is getting bad info from some warlords to get us to do their dirty work for them.

This is a shame - obviously friendly-fire casualties are an inevitable fact of war, but this kind of SNAFU should be avoidable for the most part.
