Damn Toolbar

Mrvile

Lifer
I had this toolbar (I forgot the name, something like best2search or something), and it gave me this little toolbar in my browser. Anyway I ran Adaware and Spybot over and over but they wouldn't detect it, so I went to Norton's site, looked up the files that the toolbar puts on your comp, deleted those, and deleted all the registry entries with regedit. So the toolbar is gone now, but I'm still getting little links, like something on the screen will say "computer" and the word will be highlited, and when I put my mouse over it it says "best computer." Or "best cat." Or "remove spyware." And my comp is still running kinda slow. Help!

whats the bar called? look for it in your program files i am sure you will find it. you must of installed somthing and forgot to unclick the adware.

So why's this in GH again? 😉

DL Hijack This from here (that's a Zip file) and go post a thread in Technical Support with the text from its logfile.

Mech, posted. I remember the name now, it's called "begin2search"

Loppy, I checked all my program files, checked my various adaware and spybot search results, nothing. I mean I did get rid of the toolbar and everything, just the remaining things are still happening.

In many cases those mouseover links are generated by the webpage itself, with permission from the site owner, not by adware on your PC. Are the links you are referring to green with a double underline? Or yellow?

The site owners get paid for those clicks which explains why they are becoming more and more prevalent on popular sites.

lol no no no, I know when websites have their own links and when they don't. In fact, the "adware" in my secondary title "damn adware" is underline, linking to "remove adware"

Alright, sorry for the flame, as I understand that General Hardware is by far the most read forum.

Anyway, here's some google results I got...seems to be plenty of guides out there Text

I'm tellin ya I went through this exact same thing a year or two ago, I kept seeing those underlined mouseover links on various sites and I was sure that it was some adware on my system that was inserting them. An admin at an adware help site was helping me to look into it and she determined that they were coded right into the webpage not from my browser at all.
