I started Atkins yesterday. Taking pictures each day to see how I look through two/three week induction.

There is actually a secret to Atkins that is making it so successful. It's not just the fact that by reducing your carbs, you reduce how much is converted to fat... but, a majority of people today have a systemic fungal infection they don't know about which feeds off the carbs you eat which then triggers an increase in cholestoral to bind the fungus, with other symptoms of asthma, arthritis, acid reflux, allergies, skin disorders, vaginal/ut infections, depression, etc.

Humans are hunters/gathers who are intended to eat meat, fish, vegetables, fruits and nuts, not refined carbs and foods loaded with sugar.

If you want to be healthy, forsake the 21st century diet.

We can actually eat breads, but not the breads we eat today. Back in biblical times, "bread" was about as thin as pita and very unprocessed - it was still very grainy like oats. Bread was basically just crushed grain and oil, much of the time without leavening (yeast).

We owe all of our useless bleached breads and pastries to the times when kings and royalty had nothing better to do than gorge themselves on cuisine foods.

How is your muscle mass holding up? Have you been on a weight lifting routine? If not, get on one soon!

Since no one is going to take your statements as the absolute truth, would you mind posting some evidence of the above?

I'm reading the book "The Fungal Link" by Doug Kaufmann. Here is an excerpt I found:

Crohn's disease and fungus

Some general info on systemic fungal infections

The book I'm reading as very strong evidence, for example, people take statin medications to lower cholesterol, but the medical community doesn't actually know why the statins work. Doug explains that these medications are also antifungals - which is what they were originally researched for. People's bad cholesterol levels aren't affected by what they eat, but rather the liver creates it - his explanation is that cholesterol is a binder to fungus and spores. Get rid of the fungus and the body stops producing the cholesterol. Also doctors have found out that by taking the statin medications for high cholesterol, psoriasis has cleared up, which is supposed to be an uncureable condition.

Most systemic fungal infections go untreated because they aren't detected in blood tests. The spores look almost identical to blood cells.

Also reading in my book is that studies have shown that smoking unprocessed tobacco doesn't cause lung cancer - the difference between unprocessed and processed is that the tobacco companies "cure" the tobacco using yeast and sugar. :p And yeast is a fungus...

Please let me know if you think I'm losing muscle mass.

I hurt my elbow doing reverse curls so I'm taking a break from lifting. I'm doing many sets of 100 push-ups per day though while I heal up and I do crunches every day too.

Oh yeah, I remeber now. No, you look like you're doing pretty good.

Sorry, but my memory is slipping BAD in my 30s. :(

<-- Lost 41lbs on the Atkins plan, and I feel so much better without a lot of carbs in my diet... Much more than just being not so overweight. :)

So... You're saying that if I got overweight by not being active enough and eating too much (or eating the wrong foods)... And then I shape up and start being more active and eating better... And then I ditch the new plan to go back to my old ways... You're saying that I'll gain the weight back?

Won't that happen with any nutritional plan I use, if I don't make it a perminent lifestyle change? (The answer, of course it will.)

The gist is, that this tragedy you speak of, isn't exclusive to Atkins.

no atkins, lost almost 90lbs in 3 months though ~240 -> ~155 (too much loss)...

Sensible diet, running and weights (overtraining).

Alchohol is a carb, so unless you drink those stupid alchohol free beers, its pretty much out.

I'm not even trying to lose weight but since I've started my excercise routine of tennis, practicing soccer moves with my son, running, walking and stadium stair running I've lost about 10 lbs. My appetite has definitely increased as well. I need to start upper body, though.

I finally gained a lot of weight over the years and I'd like to keep some of it on since I am about where I want to be.

YES.

Anything HIGH in fiber and Low in carbs is good. Anything with NO carbs is good.

the key is LOW LOW carbs, HIGH HIGH Fat and Fiber.

Congrats, Riprorin. Being a diabetic (type-1), I can't do atkins, but I've been doing BFL successfully for ~7 weeks now. I'm down 15lb (6' tall 188lb now) and hope to drop another 8lb or so on it. I think the biggest benefit from it is that it's hard for me to eat a lot now. ;)

Even without alcohol beer should be almost only carbs.
