Atkins will be regarded as one of the most important people of the 20th century when all is said and done. He will be thought of as Jesus reborn.

I am not sure why, he just really reported a diet that has been around (and killing) since the 1900's or even earlier.

He just pulled the Bill Gates approach with it.

Ketosis is the basis for it.

That's great progress, Rob. I'm not familiar with type-1 diabetes. Is it something you'll have to live with for life?

Yup. :(

Type-1 is insulin-dependent. I came down with it when I was 14 (many people call it juvenile diabetes, though that name is not used as often anymore). I'll have it until they come up with a cure; it means that my body produces no insulin, so I have to regulate my insulin on my own (via shots).

The greatest thing about BFL has been the insistence on HIIT, which has really helped me out on the Ultimate field. ;)

Hey Entity, have you looked into the South Beach Diet at all?

It appears to have GREAT results for diabetics, because the core purpose of the diet is to regulate the food you eat to minimize impact on your blood sugar. Without sacrificing the things you like, it's very easy to keep your blood sugar very stable. There are even several documented cases of people with pre-diabetes or early symptoms of Type 1 diabetes that were able to make a "full recovery" using this diet.

Personally I've lost 7 pounds in 3 weeks with this diet, and have never felt better. I love it. Oh, and I never really have to "watch" what I eat because after a couple weeks, the good/bad foods list gets ingrained into your head and you never really have to think about it too much. It also lets you cheat a bit without feeling too bad. :)

If you want even better results supplement it with an ECA stack. I find that if I do cardio and I eat less I start gaining weight and my metabolism goes to sh1t. So, I just don't do cardio a nd eat whatever I want but keep lifting and I stay at the same weight. The problem with atkins is it would never work for me because I've been doing it my entire life...eating mostly protein and almost no carbs..

Eating healthy food sucks. I just tried to eat baked eggplant and zucchini, guess what? It tasted dry like crap. LOL.

I already eat food that is generally low on the GI. I'm 99% sure that you are talking about "early sign of Type 2" diabetes, as there is no recovery from Type-1. Type-2 is due to insulin resistance, whereas insulin dependent diabetes means that my body produces no insulin; regardless of where the food falls on the GI, if it has carbs (and to some extent, protein as well), my blood sugars will rise if I don't have insulin. Unfortunately, this means that when I eat food with carbohydrates, I have to take a shot; in turn, if I take too much insulin, I require sugar -- quick, high-GI sugar -- to bring my glucose levels back to normal. Consequently such diets don't work for type-1 diabetics, because the medical need for quick-acting sugar takes precedence over the needs to stick with the diet. :p

That being said, BFL is working great for me; I eat around 100-150(max)g of carbs daily, around 200g of protein, and make up the rest in fat. The workout routine is great, though it's not that different than what I was doing before, and has been helping me quite a bit on the Ultimate field. Kate (my g/f) has lost 25lb on it, and I've lost 15lb so far. More than anything else, though, it's got me trained to eat less carbs and more protein. Exercise was never a problem, but eating too many carbs was. ;)

Plus, the occasional cheat days are great. ;)

First off... If you are going to commit to this plan, please get the book. It's so much easier to know why it works, and how to do it. That being said...

The first two weeks (at least) are what's called "Induction". Basically, it's where you rid yourself of the carb addiction. After that, it's up to you to decide how many carbs you want to intake. Obviously, the more carbs you allow yourself, the broader range of food choices you have.

How the book says to figure that out, is to add carbs periodically to your diet to find out where your weight loss stalls, and find out where you are comfortable. Of course, everyone is different.

For instance, for many weeks I stuck to limiting myself to ~25g/day and I got awesome results. I have lost over 40lbs and am now within 15lbs of my target weight. Now, I intake about 50g/day and will probably maintain that until I get even closer to 160lbs.

Once you have acheived your goal, you again figure out what your threshold is before you start gaining weight. The amount of carbs you can intake per day (without gaining weight) is obviously higher when you are in good shape, and your metabolism naturally rises.

I know that I will never be able to go back to my old ways. I have accepted that. :)

I imagine I'll be able to eat most anything (in moderation, of course). I see myself being succesful if I stay around 80-100g/day, when I'm in shape.

Personally, here's what I usually eat:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1/2 cup soy milk and a 1/2 cup fruit, 1/2 cup whole yogurt, 1 protein shake
Lunch: Spinach salad with turkey breast and blue cheese dressing, apple with peanut butter
Dinner: Meat, fish, or tofu, fruit, vegetable, cheese, 1/2 cup whole yogurt, 1 protein shake before bed

Snack: nuts, cheese, hard-boiled egg.

Occasionally I'll eat low carb deserts my wife makes with soy flour/low-carb bake mix and sucralose (sugar substitute). She recently made peanut butter cookies and bread pudding which were really good.

Good luck!

That whole business really put the zap on my wife's brain. I think that something I will regret the rest of my life is that I never got the chance to kick that guy in his nuts.

I am an Asian and I quit Atkins two times just after two days. f$ck, my butt is still burning from the last diet four days ago.
