What I have to say is so what, another 8 year old baptistdies....seems he got a decent life though going out...but like most of what baptist's do, there has to be preaching involved.. My uncle is dying of a huge brain tumor, probably this month he is gone too, you won't see me, put up a story about how he was a Roman Catholic, and got to come to my parent's beach condo for most of July spending time on the beach or on the boat....how he caught a few nice sized fish, etc....it's just part of life. Sucks when it happens so young though.

The thing about this story is it's not really discussing Cody, it's protraying him as a sort of martyr, talks about how he and his family were saved and found Jesus and all these extra religious tangents.....it's really an advertisement to go to church. However everytime I read these things I can't help but think, damn all these seemingly good people have the most crappy lives....little boy dying, aunt betty with the gimp leg, Cousin billy born with only one arm, etc....you never hear a good story except 'we won the state choir championships' or 'our mission raised $20,000'....nothing spectatular.

I feel bad he had to die, I don't need to hear about how his God decided to smite him which must have happened since if you can pray to save someone....then what?

Did someone call for a threadcrapper's convention in this thread? It amazes me how some non-religious folks get so worked up. If it means nothing to you, fine. Don't know why you can't handle that it could be meaningful to others.

I just love how the mention or inclusion of religion in anything drives some people nuts. Seriously....I thought it was a sad story about a kid who's life was cut too short. I wasn't posting it to further some religious agenda....hell ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you the only time they see me in a church is for a wedding or a funeral....doesn't mean I don't believe in God....just means that I don't feel you have to go to church and play all the reindeer games in order to lead a good life. I also don't like people who push religion on everyone else....not much worse in my mind....I lump the Baptist wackos that do that in with the same people that flew into the World Trade Center. Religious extremism by ANYONE is bad......then again anti-religious extremism is just as bad. All the people that jump into any religious thread here and start sh1t about it need to be taken out and given an ass beating like we gave the Taliban. Really....I put this story here because I thought it was a good one about the kid. If you don't like the religious aspect of it then don't read it....just don't go pissing and moaning because the story had a religious tilt.

I can respect what you're saying ... knowing that you're not a bible toting mf'er pushing your beliefs ...

But still, the last 1/2 of that article was not at all about the kid.

*Claps* Agreed.

People on this board seem to a wait for a God reference just so they can spout off how much they hate him/don't believe/etc.. Makes tons of sense

it's not the religion that bothers me. it's the religion's blatant use of a child's death as an adverstisement...

Yup, that's EXACTLY what I thought.

I stopped reading it once I read the word "saved" and then I knew it would be all the same like every other hand out I read.

Exactly. I kept expecting to see an endorsement for the Church of Latter Day Saints at the end.

it's too bad Cody didn't fry his CPU; that would've generated more sympathy from this crowd.

I remember when some religion said a few months ago that people get ailments because they are sinners. Yet when they want to promote their religion they also refer to these (as they call them) sinners with ailments? So which is it? Is the little boy an angel or a sinner?

I don't even know why I'm in a thread about religion. I'm sure as heck not out to change anyones mind about anything what with how closed minded people can be and how it usually ends up in a flame war where someone calls someone else a nazi and then it's all over but the shouting, or something like that.

I'd also like to say it is sad when any child has to go through surgery since the age of 3 and ends up dying so young but then that kind of thing happens all over the world all the time. And i don't know little Cody from this story any more than any of the other millions of kids that have died all over the world from various causes. Or even any of the children who lost parents at an early age, a similarly sad event. Am I supposed to grieve for all these people i don't even know?

Am I supposed to change religions because that's what this particular kid would have wanted before he died? Or am I supposed to think he was a sinner and deserved it, since that is also a recent "bright idea" the preachers came up with?

If you knew the child, sorry for your loss. If you didn't, then I'm sorry I don't know why you've made a fuss over his death and ignored all the other children who die every day.
