My little sister got on the computer and started clicking on all types of links and going to angelfire. Now our computer is filled with spyware. I've tried using spywareblaster, spybot, adaware, spyhunter, and a couple other programs but none of it seems to get rid of all the mess. I can't even open task manager without it closing itself out as soon as it opens. btw i'm running windows xp. Popups are taking over. any suggestions are appreciated.

Run your anti-spyware software in safe mode.

Get to the command line prompt, and delete ALL cookies. You will have to reset the ones you want to keep, but it is less work than trying to figure out which cookies are the ones you want to get rid of.

Which anti-virus program do you use?

Give "HiJack" this a shot. Be careful with it, but run it to get a look at what things are getting loaded.

Or keep a Ghost copy around. Even less time wasted

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I tried rebooting in safe mode and running spybot and adaware. Didn't seem to help with the closing task manager. Now i'm trying another virus checker. I would reformat but i have so much stuff that i need to backup first.

Just tell her be glad she is not EyeMwing's (or something like that) sister or he would have executed her for violating his draconian home security policies. Anybody remember that thread way back? Whatever happened to that guy?

1. Reinstall windows over itselft; you will not loose any of your personal files.
2. Before going online, run spyware progs.

I like spy sweeper. It found something that was
causing a pop up that other spyware programs
could never find.
