Damn skunks

I used to think skunks only used their spray for defense, and I have no idea where they live, although I'd suspect it wouldn't be in the middle of my yard. Now I'm beginning to wonder; this is probably the 7th or 8th time so far this spring/summer that I've had to shut my windows in the evening/nighttime because of it, I think they spray right outside my damn bedroom :| Is there anything that repels them? Or am I going to have to wait outside at night with a pellet gun? I generally like animals but this is getting a bit much.
