The hardest RTS that I have ever played. I can never beat the computer unless its on easiest, because there is a never ending stream of enemy units coming at me. Regardless of how big an army I make I always get beat down by attrition and unable to get re-enforcements to hold a captured city. I cant keep track of what units counter what other units because there are so damn many. It also doesnt help that you get typical Microcrap documentation via a 35 page instruction manual that doesnt go beyond "You must gather X Resource so you can buld X unit/building". Its the worst instruction manual I have ever seen, and for a game thats as complicated as Civilization and Age of Empires 2 combined. Im getting to damn old for these type of games:(

You have to practice at that game, or just be naturally adept at RTSs. Once you get good though, its fun extorting your friends by threatening them with nukes if they don't back down off of your ally's border.

I just finished a game with Armageddon. Kept playing back and forth with the Computer in this one city, so I built ten nukes and let rip!!!:|

Microsoft didn't create the game. They only gave the developers $$$ and slapped their name on it.

You have to build forward bases, as close to your border as you can get. That way you have a fast stream of resupply troops. And when your border moves you need to build a new set of bases.

Basically wherever you plan on launching an attack you need to have military buildings nearby. It takes too damn long for the troops to walk all the way across the map from your main city/territory

If you play with enough opponents on a big enough map, armageddon never arrives, and you can burn the earth to your heart's content.

I just play it on "easy" and then it makes me feel really good inside, like I am ruler of the entire world. But when I start to feel too powerful I have to tell myself that it is just a game and in a sense it is just a subterfuge that my mind is playing on me.

It's all about micromanagement and multi-tasking.

Make sure you are not just focusing on one thing.

Hmmm... It's definitely a tough game, but once you get the hang of it you can beat the computer on all the modes where you either have a ressource advantage or it is equal. I got bored of the game before I started playing on the modes with insane amounts of bonus ressources to the computer.

BTW, I find that against the computer, the best strategy is to have a defensive force and focus on ressource/tech development until you get arquebusiers. If you play right you get gunpowder units and you can plow through his cities. Once that starts happening it'll never catch up to your level of tech. I find it's easier to pull this strategy when playing against multiple computer players because they like to pound on each other early in the game while I get my gunpowder units.

Again, this has only been tested on intermediate and the difficulty above that (hard?).

I love playing RoN with some of the different mods out there. I took the Uberresources mod, and altered the population limits to 500 max, and removed the armageddon clock. I also changed some of the units so that they don't count against your population limit (ie: caravans, scholars, and missles).

I've since learned that the computer loves to build nukes and lob them as fast as possible.
