The story of a ex-NBA player (Williams) with lots of emotional problems, that ends up with tragedy and Williams facing 30 years in prison.

Sad and disturbing. Goes to show, money doesn't buy happiness.
 
it may be sad, but he did kill a guy (yes, i know, innocent until proven otherwise). he should have exercised more caution with a gun.

The point of the article is not, in my opinion, to make the reader sympathize with Williams. It just tells the rather pathetic story of how he got here. I don't think anybody is trying to mitigate his offense.
 
I definitely have little symapthy for Williams. Any athlete who blows their chances of making gobs of money, and play a game for a living.....and then screws it up by doing something idiotic, deserves what they sow.

If I got paid the league minimum for playing in the NBA, I'd be the happiest person in the league 🙂.
