Damn, packing up for school feels weird...

I'm moving into the dorms tommorow for the first time, even though I'm half way through my Junior year, and it just feels weird.

I've never really been out of the house or on my own for any extended period of time, so I'm kinda looking forward to it. At the same time, it's almost kinda scary. :Q

It should be interesting though, nice to finally have a little freedom in my life.

Any advice/tips/words of wisdom?

I didnt like the dorms when I was a freshman. Now that they've built new ones and that living alone in a single apartment is to expensive for me I think I want to go back for awhile at least.

Whenever you get a new roommate setup the rules first. Try to eat at least one meal a day with them (guarentees sometime to get to know each other) and always hook up with their girlfriends or don't hook up with them... i forget how that one works.

Try VERY hard to get along with your roommate. Nothing sucks more after a stressfull day of classes than dreading going back to your room to deal with roommate issues. Your room should be a place where you can releave stress.

This is key. Also, something most people don't think of... even if you aren't mr social, leave your room once in a while and give your roommate some privacy... If you have a hint he might be bringing a girl back, make sure you find someplace to be that night, he'll rememebr the same when the situation is reversed... Oh yeah, always knock twice before going into your own room and then wait a second... if I had a quarter every time this trick helped save me from being walked in oin or me walking in on someone, I'd have, well, enough for an anandtech subscription anyways
