She bought a pack of Avery iron-on transfers to put her group name on the tee-shirts that her and her friends are going to wear for tomorrows MS walk.

she ran the IRON-ON (notice the caps) transfer pages through my LASER printer.

Me. 'Ummm honey, there is a reason why the front of the package says INK JET and not LASER. Now you know Laser printers use heat to melt the plastic in the toner...

Toner is fried it sounds funny and prints the image she sent through it along with what ever else i tell it to print.

Uggg Citrix needs a Xanax.

Women were designed to test your patience by wasting your money, you should be used to this by now!

That usually doesn't hurt the cartridge, the fuser is where you'd run into problems.

If that's the case she likely fried your entire printer, since fusers aren't replaceable on the vast majority of consumer lasers.

You have almost certainly destroyed the fuser film.

wierd, I've never seen a laser printer that didn't have a replacable fuser. (I used to be the HP/Lexmark laser printer repair man)

Fuser is never in the cartridge.

Fuser is the heating element & pressure roller that bond toner onto the page.

Final step in the print process before the page exits the printer.

Well, they're usually replaceable in the sense that they CAN be replaced, it's rarely financially prudent to do so.

The drum is part of the toner. The fuser is the heating part that fuses the toner to the piece of paper.

on my trusty old laserjet 4, the fuser is a few screws and 60 bucks. I can repair it for you if you are in CA...

pick your model here then on the keyword search drop down, select maintenance kit. it should come with a fuser, transfer roller, pressure roller, and pickup/seperation rollers.

Don't be too hard on her, this is VERY common.

People just don't realize that laser toner fuses at 400+ degrees.

T-Shirt transfers, inkjet transparencies, coated inkjet papers, etc. are all a HUGE no no in a laser printer.

Extremely unlikely his printer has a maintenance kit.

Even $500-700 lasers don't have them.

[EDIT]Looks like you got lucky. Except that you can replace the entire printer for under $200. Also just to point out this is not considered to be a user replaceable part. HP won't help you install it.[/EDIT]

I just looked it up. it costs 165 directly from them. I used to do this for a living. every HP and lexmark printer I've ever seen have maint. kits.

I wouldn't bother with the maintenance kit. I would upgrade to a better printer. A friend of mine picked up a brother MFC-7820 for 300 bucks shipped. It even comes with a network card.

EDIT: here it is from Amazon

Most are ASP install only. You don't see user replaceable maintenance kits on consumer level lasers.

I used to do ASP support for corporate HP lasers, some of those even don't have maintenance kits (again, user replaceable).

Also, as I posted before you can replace the entire printer for under $200. A $165 ASP install maintenance kit is pointless.

Im not, she feels bad enough about it that i just cant bring myself to get mad about it.

I have been running a bunch of full page images through it and it seems to be clearing it up.

It will probably clear up some, but you need to be looking for a replacement.

I don't know if the 1100 is new enough to have one of HP's newer fusers but once they start to go they peel like crazy.

You also run a good chance of wrapping something around the damaged roller.

What does ASP stand for? All of the HP LJ printers I support at work have maintenance kits. Of course they're all 4050's, 4100's, 4200's etc.
