Damn memory prices!

The Hot Deals thread has a comment that has like really cheap ram.. something like $70 for 512mb PC3200, $35 for 256mb, but when you get into the thread and page, the prices have raised to $100 and $50. Bah! :disgust:

I thought I had found a bargain and was gonna order ASAP when I seen that first!

They should change the thread title. It's false advertizing at best. Almost made the mistake of buying the ram, but they wouldn't let me.

Yeah freakin ram is so damn expensive now, all mainly because of ddr2 coming out and blossoming. When I was looking for some memory last month for my new comp, prices literally went up 50 dollars in one day. Just over night. Not fun.

i've always hated ram prices. they're so volatile. i say if you find a good deal on ram on one day, go for it asap 'cause tomorrow it might just be gone.

For normal use, I've been able to find RAM locally for about $50 with MIR for 512 Mb PC2700. From Best Buy (PNY, Spectek), Circuit City (Kingston), Office Depot & OfficeMax, all within the last month when Newegg RAM prices (and everyone else's) were up at $95-100 for 512 Mb. Pay attention to those Sunday morning ads!

Right now the economy is rebounding and has been in the tech sector for a bit so we are seeing increased demand and a dwindling supply of standard ddr....I expect them to drop soon as DDRII starts arriving and they will drop the standard DDRI. Ram is quickly rising to the point it could push many of the bargain pcs over the limit that pushes many of the average joes to buy and to upgrade....It will eventually start being counterproductive.

It is definitely cyclic so now you time is to sell ram not buy it.....

The manufacturers are at a delicate position where if they ramp up production they could quickly have a glut of suuply and then they have to drop ram prices drastically and make less moeny on the modules...They are trying to balance supply with demand to keep a price more stabile and likely still higher then most of us like it...The good news is when this happens there always seems to be a set of companies who abandon this sensibility and start dumping ram at cheaper prices and starts a nice chain reaction....

This is at least what I have noticed now as being patterns for the last 8 years....

For historical perspective, I bought a 256MB Crucial PC133 CL2 module for $308 shipped back in... I think it was Oct. 1999 or so. Things have been worse 🙂 Later those same sticks were selling for below $30, btw.

dwindling supply

I thought there was an artical posted that completely dissmissed ram price fluctuations having ANYTHING to do with supply and deamand.

I'd imagine this is why the major memory chip producers went under a serious federal investigation, I wish I could remember the details.
