Damn, low keyrate for Rc5.

Darnit, i clocked my Duron 700Mhz back to 1Ghz today to test out how it felt with ram running at PC133 and Cas2. Did some benchmarks which reflected on the absymal state of my TNT2 Vanta and then started up RC5. To my dismay, i only got this...

an AMD K7-3 processor.

Felt real low compared to those guys at TA Cube. I'm clocking back to down 700Mhz. 🙁
This's one of the times i feel like having dual processors.

I would like that keyrate 🙂... my dual cel@500 gets 2.8Mkeys max.

I guess you have to order some G4 macs to really get going (didn't those things get somewhere around 7Mkeys/s ? )

This might be comforting 🙁

[Sep 11 10:00:56 UTC] Completed RC5 packet CDE5742D:60000000 (1*2^28 keys)
0.00:30:14.13 - [147,968.76 keys/sec]

Those numbers are right in line with what you should be getting with a 1 ghz duron. You should get about 1000 WU/day at 1 ghz. There are many people in this forum who would love to get that rate. Don't stop overclocking just because you can't compete with the borg. (if you have other reasons to stop overclocking then go ahead)

If you really want to increase your keyrate, you could become integral 10 of TA Cube
buahahahahahahaha!😀

Edit: as long as pookhe is on the subject take a look at this:
[Jul 14 03:34:46 UTC] Benchmark for RC5 core #0 (RG/BRF class 5)
0.00:00:16.15 [15,216.28 keys/sec]

nukefarmer: that's PER tread isn't it?
running dual celery 300@504 myself at home (stats above are from work pc) pumping 2.3 each (i think)

Hmm, i've just discovered, well, my Win ME installation seemed cranky and i was planning for a reinstall soon anyway. But i just woke the computer from standby mode and it seemed that the ssytem wasn't up to it's normal speed. Sure enough, i ran RC5 with nothing else in taskbar except blackice defender and only got 1.4MKeys/s for a 807Mhz Duron? (I'm testing out my chip at all different speeds)

SO i did a reboot and sure enough, keyrate went back to normal at 2.73MKeys/s. Funny why a mere 263Mhz at 1070Mhz gets me 1MKeys/s more than at 800Mhz.

So this is another benefit of RC5 huh? Must remember it when i go on my assimilation crusade after my exams are over. Estimate of how long more for project of RC5?

I'm thinking of getting my cousin's new PIII 800Mhz to join. Anyone can give me some convincing lines to say? Also, what are the procedures? Why do i hear people talking about using Russ's setup disk?

My favorite and most successful line of attack is that it keeps the CPU at a constant temperature and avoids the nasty temperature swings that modern operating systems with their stupid energy saving measures cause. Talk about thermal cycling, expansion and contraction of components, badmouth the EPA and Green Computing a bit. You can convince anybody who is not a competent technician. The competent technicians are already cracking! 🙂

Just tell him it's fun.

Russ created the setup disk(s) to make it easier to start running the client. All you have to do is supply the email address.

jinsonxu: I currently have two Duron 700@1000 and each one produces an RC5 benchmark of 3.57Mkeys/sec.

3.18Mkeys/sec seems quite low.

As for my personal assimilation of my family and friends' computers, do i have to get them to go through all the registration processes or do i just install the RC5 client and get it to dolnloa dand upload through my e-mail?

Hey! Maybe i could tell my cousin that Compaq (his favourite computer company, his PIII 800Mhz was from them) is gonna use RC5 as the official burnin program for their data-centers?

Yeah! 😀

Successfully converted my cousin to run RC5. My first assimilation! I'm going to start on my friends in school. Then if it becomes popular, i'll convince the IT guy to run it in the school labs. Pity we don't stock G4s though.

jinsonxu; you can have your friends crack under your email addy; all they need to do is load the client and put in your email-no registration needed since your email is already registered. 🙂

Now go assimilate 'em all. :->

Really? But if i leave my computer on while i'm in school, i'd be vulnerable without my firewall.

Wait a minute, i'll switch off the cable modem and shut down blackice instead! 🙂

jinsonxu
to shut down blackice first right click on systray icon and select stop blackice engine when the icon has a red bar across it right click and exit.If not shut down like this it will still run in the background.

Found out that blackice defender takes up a regular 25% of CPU time at 800Mhz. What does that mean? It uses 200Mhz?

Zonealarm also does that, 24-25% of processor usage. When i close them, i get only 0 to 4% CPU usage. So i powered off the cable modem before going to sleep yesterday night.

Thing is my computer's getting real noisy with the PS fan, slot fan, CPU fan, 3 hardisk cooler fans, front intake fan. They didn't seem to help airflow. Temperatures remained about the same for the CPu except fot the MB which got a 3 degree reduction. Waste of money sigh.

I took a look at a pretty large Sunon fan yesterday. Anyone tried it? It cost $14 US but looked rather large and i don't feel up to drilling up my casing. I figure the next fan i should buy will be for the CPU. 4500rpm doesn't seem good enough. Anyone with 7200rpm fans care to post their CPU temperatures? (On AMD systems that is)

Using my Moms K6-2 at 400mhz with Blackice defender running is really painful. Takes up a lot of cycles.
BTW: I get 2.8Mkeys with the system below, is that good/acceptable? (And i'm a TA of course 🙂

🙂
