Damn kitchen.

God dammit, my kitchen is falling apart. Last night, I noticed a smell near the oven. Thinking it was the garbage, I took it out and washed out the garbage can. Still smelled. Tracked the smell to the stove. Lifted up the cooktop and saw....a furry ass staring me in the face. A damn mouse got in the area below the burners and got stuck in a small hole trying to get out and died. :disgust: I had to take the whole stove apart to get him out (he came out in 2 or 3 pieces :disgust: ). So after that disgusting experience, I thought I was done with kitchen problems...

...until 5 minutes ago. So I'm cleaning my entire kitchen to keep any more mice from wanting to hang out and I notice that water is running out of the cabinet under the sink. I open the cabinet and see water pouring out of the drain pipe. There's a fscking 2 inch hole rusted out of the pipe. Crap. I'm supposed to cook for a bunch of people this afternoon. How the fsck can I do the dishes after this??? :| :| :| Time to call the landlord...

Oh my! You're renting that place? Sounds like a scary place to live with the rats and all. Gee, after you discovered the mouse in the oven, it makes me wonder how clean you can EVER get that place.

meh...it's New York. Your apartment is only as clean as your neighbors'.

meh.. you're just a slob. I know in NY apartments there isn't really much room. But try and be cleaner more often, everynow and then. I puroposely designed my kicthen separate. Have my island table, cutting table, sink, diswasher and fridge is sporadic places, and usually no roon in between or back of the drawers, cupboards, tables.

Easier to clean, maintain, and have no about mice or roaches. (land lord is gonna hassle you.. just hassle back harder and threaten about calling the housing dept... that'll get him in line 😛😉 )

Actually, my apartment is pretty much spotless. My gf and I are both very clean. I've never seen roaches or any mouse droppings prior to this. I think he was mostly in there for warmth.

Call the landlord and ask him if he wants you to fix it for $$ off the rent this month... Or, if he could come over today and fix it. Drain problems like that take about 5 minutes to fix. (if that)

Yeah, I know. The drainpipe just needs to be replaced. I called him, he's calling the real estate company to call a plumber for us.

calling a plumber for a drain pipe?! Wow. Seriously, it's a 5 minute job that even my wife or kids could handle. See if you could just D-I-Y and save on the rent.

You have to remember it's New York! They're a bit different there. 😉

Of course I can do it myself, but I have to cook right now, plus the hardware store down the street is closed. I had to go to Duane Reade to get duct tape. It's duct taped right now and not leaking so it can hold out until the 24 hour plumber gets here later tonight.
