17 over in Oklahoma is pushing $300.

Oh well, lesson learned. Cruise control from now on.

12 over in cali cost me 180...

that was a couple years ago. i hear it's gone up since then. our red light tickets sure have. ticket prices for red light tickets are $391 here.

It shouldn't be reported since I have an out of state license and I am about to be issued a new one in a different state.

It's a combination of my car and the fact that I am driving I-40 from West Texas to Oklahoma City. There is not a damn thing in between besides Highway Patrol.
 
I rarely go 15 over. I go 80 in a 65 only when a lot of the traffic is going 80 or if I am impatient. 😉

I'm a NY resident, but drive to/through Virginia at least once a year. I'm careful not to speed whenever I am driving.

The simple solution is not to speed. If you do the math on how much time you save by doing 80 instead of 60 on most trips it's only a couple of minutes. Really, is knocking 2 minutes off the trip worth the thousands that a speeding ticket costs in long term insurance premium hikes?
 
I usually try not to speed, but then people behind me tailgate and beep their horn and stuff. Where I live it's almost a law that it's legal to go 10 over. They should just raise all the speed limits by 10-15 but be more strict about them. The highest speed limit here (in town) is 70km/h. In fact, even the main highway is 60. There's one small stretch that is 80 on another highway entering town but it's been under construction for years so nobody drives that speed around workers. (using the term workers very loosely here)

Let's say you're driving 240 miles. 3 hours at 80mph, 4 at 60mph.

I often speed, but rarely over 15mph. It just doesn't make sense to go the speed limit; it's too slow.

Much of I-75/85/285 that runs through Atlanta has a posted speed limit of 55. That is absurd. Especially considering how sprawling Atlanta is. Driving the speed limit is futile in such a situation. Unless you don't have anywhere to go, enjoy driving on the highway at slow speeds, etc.

I don't understand why there is such a disconnect between speed limits and reality. Oh because the 302234235256 Georgia patrol cops need something to do.
