After two heart surgeries in Nov 13 (valve replacement and pacemaker) I'm having my first latte this morning. I haven't had one of these in probably a year.

brainhulk: I have the total package. Synthetic Aortic valve ('99), synthetic Mitral valve ('13) and pacemaker with ICD. I have marfan syndrome and my first aneurysm was when I was 29. I had another in May '11 but no surgery required, then my mitral valve failed. I need surgery on my lower descending aorta but waiting to get healthy and will probably have it in the spring.

highland: No sugar!

Wow, sorry to hear about all that man. On a beta blocker as well?

Enjoy the latte!

Dad had an aneurism fixed there. Opened him up from one side to the other. Better be careful or you'll start to look like Frank's monster.

No sugar? Must be lupus then.

I'm on a blood thinner (warfarin) to thin my blood so it doesn't clot as easily due to the valves. My father (RIP) died as a complication of having a blood clot which went undiagnosed. He developed endocarditis from a staph infection. I face the same risk so need to be on top of my meds. I take a dozen meds, about 8 of them heart related.

To control the heart rate? The pacemaker doesn't do that?

No, it maintains rate when it gets to slow. But you want a beta blocker if you're at risk for Aneurysm because shifts in heart rate too high create shear forces that may overcome weakened vessel

Blood thinner? Have you thought about fish oil supplements?
