I should be out looking for a new part time job after quiting my 711 job and getting back from holidays but I just can't seem to give a shit... about ANYTHING. I'm signing up for university for a few days for the fall semester so that's something I guess. Still too sociophobic to go out and date or do anything, doesn't help that I never have. I just can't get myself to care.

Yes I have looked at counselling but with little success. Been on meds for quite a while which have helped to some degree.

Don't start with women, once you start with them, they are like crack, you can't stop and they take over your life!

If you don't have to work for the rest of Summer, then don't and just relax until you hit University in the Fall. You going to UBC?

You shouldn't have quit your job. You were earning 40k with just a high school degree.

SFU. I could probably transfer to UBC if I wanted to with one or two additional courses. I was taking a look at my cumulative GPA the other day and it's better than I thought. 3.2. I came out of highschool with a 4.0 and through the 3 years of university that I did I usually got As or A- in most courses. But because of depression and other issues I dropped out of university something like 3 or 4 times which really messed with my grades. As you can see I still have emotional issues however my time working at 711 has actually believe it or not helped me to mature in some ways and I don't think I will have quite the same issues as before. Or to put it another way I may suffer but I've matured enough I think to work through it.

About dating. Yeah emotional baggage and first time dating don't go hand in hand. But then I don't want to end up being a the 40 year old virgin and as things are that's the track I'm on :(

It was that or become and alcoholic. I was drinking a bottle a day. I liked some aspects of the job a lot and it helped me mature in some ways. Back 10 years ago I could NEVER have even started that job. Let alone do it for 4 years and run the store at the end for about 4 months.

If you have enough experience (if you were making 40k at 711 I'm guessing you were manager or something) then see if you can get a job with just that experience alone. Why waste time and money on school? But if you really can't find a job then decide what you want to do in life and go to school for it. Don't just go to school to fill time or it will be a waste.

Also girls can wait. You don't want your life taken over right now. I'm 23 and been working full time for 2 years. I could not care less about a relationship right now. I'm working on my new house and can't wait to be alone (end of sept hopefully - still lot of work to be done). I want to at least enjoy a few more years of freedom before I let a girl own half my stuff and control my life.

I can't knock that because I feel the same way, but there's something to be said for steady paychecks.

Good for you I'd love to be in your position. The thing is that yes the experience I had was in retail management but that's not where my interests/passion lies. My whole life I've been a science/technology guy and that's where I'd love to end up at some point. Where exactly I'm not sure. I've bounced back and forth between cosmology, physics, math and computing science. I have some experience with each.

That's a pretty sad perspective on girls. Girls should be supplementing your life, not be controlling half your life. If that's happening, you're with the wrong girl.
Enjoy your ego defense for not being able to get a girl.

Agreed however I'm guessing it gets. Harder and harder to atract 'normal' girls as the years go bye if you have no experience. :(

Sitting inside on the computer is not going to help you with your issues whatsoever. It will make them worse. You need to develop healthy social relationships. Don't worry about meeting girls and dating. If you're happy with your life and connected to good people, the women will come. Unless, of course, you're a slob or really ugly.

Sounds like you're making a sound decision, my job isn't nearly as bad as driving me to drink a bottle a day, and I'm almost positive i'm going to have to quit when school starts just to keep my sanity too. School is seriously a sunny day in the park full of nom nom and *snorglesnorgle* compared to working full time for me. Eliminate the most stressful thing and suddenly, everything else just becomes so much easier, at least in my experience...

Forget women? I think not. All the material possessions in the world are meaningless. Material things will never make you happy. Find yourself a woman and all of a sudden you'll be a new man again and find that desire to live life again.
