i've got a couple of negative factors here, a DVI Monitor and a USB Keyboard/ Mouse.

should i just hook up only ps/2 mouse keyboard and Analog monitor?

There's not enough info to begin troubleshooting...

Take us back to the beginning...

Do any fans spin? and noise of power? or no power at all?

fans spin, cd rom spins, hd spins, nothing on monitor.

MSI's Diagnostic says this "Chipset Initialization" that's where it gets stuck.

Yeah, theres really nothing we can tell you that you haven't already tried.
I'm assuming you've already cleared the CMOS many times.

Don't feel too bad - I yanked all the guts out of my case this week to install a new A64 system, and dropped the old stuff into another case I had sitting around. Plugged the PSU into the old board, connected everything, powered it up, and it worked fine, so I shut it down. When I went back later to start loading windows, *BLAM*! the damn PSU blew a cap :p. Fortunately it didn't take anything with it; I'm waiting on a new powersupply from Newegg as I type this. Good luck on your stuff.

ya, pulled the batter too. i could pull the battery and leave it off overnight, but as it was a new board to start off with, not sure how much that will help.

I know you've tried clearing the CMOS a number of times, but, for kicks, try booting with the CMOS reset jumper in the other position. Reason I say that is I just finished helping a friend with a "doesn't POST" type problem and it turned out that the manual that came with it (according to him - I couldn't see it since I was helping over IM) had the CMOS reset jumper's positions for reset and boot backwards, such that in what he thought to be "normal" mode, it was in clear mode :)

Unknown computer problems frustrate me a lot too.

I recently fixed my iexplore.exe having, "the memory could not be read" issues, and no, it wasn't my RAM at fault; rather it was conflicting software.

The one that pisses me off the most is "IRQ less than or Equal." I got it a few times on an old machine and pretty much gave up on it.

I hate it when this happens. You spend tons of money on a new rig and it doesn't post. Absolute crap! More often than not I found it to be the memory and Motherboard were not compatible or a shorted connection.

Yes don't use DVI when first starting up a system. i use a dell 2001fp, and it doesn't show anything all the way until I get into windows.

Meh I used DVI to start up a system. Worked perfectly fine. Only thing I didn't see was the initial splashscreen but I got into the BIOS fine.

ok, after reading some of the posts in GH, particularly the post of Zebo, i have come to the conclusion that this MB doesn't support Winchester without a bios flash (a little tough to do without a flasher or a pc that posts :( )

oh well, back to the drawing board, will have to return the mb and try for another one.

In my experience, the following mobo brands have a 50/50 or greater chance of arriving DOA:
MSI
Soyo (100%)
Chaintech
Biostar
Soltek
Asrock
ECS/Elitegroup

The following brands, not arriving DOA, have a 50/50 or greater chance of failure in the first year:
Soyo (100%)
Chaintech
Biostar
Soltek
Asrock
ECS/Elitegroup
Epox (100%)

The following brands provide a negligible number of DOA's/early deaths:
Asus (5% DOA, 5% early death)
Abit (0% DOA, 1 specimen early death)
Tyan (0% DOA, 0% early death)
Supermicro (0% DOA, 0% early death)
VIA (0% DOA, 0% early death)
Intel (5% DOA, 5% early death)

This is based upon approximately 1500 mainboards that I have serviced and sold.
