Damn!! I got a ticket FIVE MILES away from Vegas!!!

Ok.. so here I am like literally 5 miles away from Vegas.. I can see Mandalay Bay and Luxor's light tower when I notice in the corner of my eye there's a cop hiding in the middle meridian with all his lights turned off just waiting... well my fears are realized when he cuts chase and turns on his red & blues. says he clocked my at 89 in a 65 but well.. when he turned on his sirens I was going about 84 or 85 really.. and the 65 limit zone just suddenly came up after a 100 mile stretch on a 70 mph road. I can't deny that once i saw that big giant black pyramid that I pressed a little harder on the gas, so I didn't complain and just took the ticket even though I thought it was kinda shady how the cop's looking to pick people off 5 minutes away from entering Las Vegas...

Well anyways, I got a ticket about four months ago in California, where I'm a resident of. I took traffic school to get rid of the point, but I think I may have to bite the bullet for this ticket. Is there any law that will help me get out of the insurance point if I got the ticket in another state?? Probably not, but I can still hope...

grumble grumble.. rotten po's

you're screwed....unless you've got prepaid legal services....haha....just kidding that's a piece of crap....

Go to court and ask the judge if you can take defensive driving again. It worked for me once.

You should drive slower if you can't see them before they can see you. *knock on wood*

i have has a couple of close calls lately myself...

A ticket free zone??? I have been there 3 times within the past year, and there are people getting tickets all the time.

What would happen to his insurence if he didn't pay it I know his license would be suspened in nevada but can they do anything else to you?

Since you live in Cali, you are not likely to be going to court in Las Vegas - rather you are most likely to just pay the fine.

Slow down.

BTW, are there any speed limit free areas left in Nevada? There use to be no speed limit on the highways there (It's a LONG time since I visited there).

EDIT: Most states have an agreement with each other - at least neighboring states - so that a fine in one state effects the liscensing in the other "home" state. Your outta luck if you don't pay and fines tend to grow and grow.

Reminds me, I have a bogus violation in Hawaii I have to attempt to correct by mail (or at least request a court hearing and bring the documantation when I return). 🙁

They get lots of people right there for the very same reason they got you. The highway gets wider (we just finished that about a year ago) and the speed limit drops about the same place. When I drive out to LA to visit my dad I always slow down at stateline through the spaghetti bowl.

I worked many 24 hour shifts at our statline post and we get some pretty nasty wrecks out there. High speeds and really hot pavement do not mix very well with tires.

during New Year's my friend got caught going 90 or so... right outside of Vegas on the 15, on those overpasses, they had a bunch cops up top tagging drivers... then down on the highway, they had cops on bikes waiting on the side of the street to pull them over... drivers were getting pulled over left and right. oh well.

<<High speeds and really hot pavement do not mix very well with tires.>>

I thought hot pavement would help the tires to get grip.

Not when you have been driving 80MPH for a few hours, the heat helps the tires fail. It helps with grip if you have high performance racing tires, not factory tires.

That is why there are so many accidents within about 50 miles of vegas, seems to be the "fail zone".

Am I understanding you right? You think it's shady to get a speeding ticket?

If you're speeding more than 10 over, you DESERVE a ticket. However, if you're speeding even 1 mph over the limit, you're ELIGIBLE for a ticket.

SLOW DOWN.
