Well, the previous owner my car did a crappy job with the stereo. He either used short speaker cables or pulled them too far to the trunk (where all 3 amps are), so I couldn't take the old (broke) headunit out. So I took apart the whole center console and unplugged the cables from there. I got the Pioneer Deh-4600MP from BestBuy for $159.99 - $20 rebate = $139.99 and installed it today. It was a pain in the ass to wire the harness but oh well. Why can't headunit manufacturers all use the same wiring harness? 😕 Anyways, the headunit is a cheap one (but it plays MP3s and has Aux-in for my iPod mini :cool😉 but I don't care as I am definitely getting a new car in a year and I didn't want to invest much on this one...

What do you think? 😛 Nothing fancy but does the job well 😛 2 12" Subs in the trunk sound pretty good, so no complaints 🙂
 
Um, the problem doesn't lie with the manufacturer's wiring harness - it's the fact that every car manufacturer uses different wiring, and even then it's not the same among all the cars in their lineup.

good job, when i was transfering the stereo from the pos escort i had to my new car i ended up stabbing myself with a pair of scisors. not fun.

Well with all the different systems in cars that'd be hard to, especially now with built-in Navi in most luxury cars, built in amps/sub combos, 8-9 speakers in vehicles now, etc.

why were you using scissors to work on car stereo???

i've done all kinds of car stereo jobs and the only thing i've ever used scissors for would be to cut the carpet i was applying to a freshly built sub box or amp rack

Nevermind. I've actually only driven an A4 once. I seem to remember the interior having more curves, and seeming more supple though. Anyways, the new head unit looks good. Probably even better than the original. Do you have a pic of the original with the whole thing put together?

It was like, I smashed the pedal, and nothing happened, the car's computer was thinking, "hrmmm, what does this pedal mashing mean? I suppose we should go..." and I started to roll... slowly. About 5 or 6 seconds later the revs got up higher and it picked up some speed. Same thing when stomping on it while you were going, lots of hesitation and turbo lag.

I remember getting out of that car and into my Volvo 960 i6 2.9 (the car being replaced), driving off the lot and thinking, wow... What was up with that?

Show me an Alpine unit that costs less than $150 and looks better 😛 Seriously, I looked around for Alpines but they are butt-ugly IMO 😛

Yeah, the 1.8T is not the fastest car but one of the most moddable cars out there. Quattro adds a lot of weight but nothing a little modding can't fix. You should check Audiworld.com. With a $5,000 investment, you could get the car ~ 300hp. Chips usually give around 45hp boost in these cars. Add catback exhaust and a K04 turbo (from groupbuy of course 😛) and you'll have a pretty fast car and we don't have to discuss Quattro's handling (i also got the AWE drivetrain stabilizer, Neuspeed swaybar, Eibach/Bilstein Springs/Shocks) and the car handles likes a dream... people hate me when they see the big grin on my face during winter when we have 10" snow 😀

Of course, I'll never mod my car again. That's a different story though.

1.8t's are far from dog slow. Turbo's need to be spooled, so stomping on the gas isn't effective for acceleration. Combine flooring the gas with Drive by Wire, an automatic transmission, and a hot turbo... you won't be going anywhere quickly.
