You're crazy... Having worked on the Hornets (and worked side by side with F-16s for many many years), they're not nearly as loud as the F-16s. Them things even though with one engine but that engine got a big ass, and the noise is, I would say equal, if not louder than the F/A-18s. Hmm... wait til they break Supa Sonics.
Hmm, it must be the altitude difference then. The F/A-18s shake our windows here at home when they approach for landing but at work the F-16s don't when they are approaching for landing. I must live closer to Oceana than I am from Langley when I'm at work.

They're both louder than the F-14s though. Too bad they're being phased out in 2007. 🙁

For some reason or another there were some B52's flying into Tulsa one day, who knows why, and they were coming in low and slow approaching Tulsa from the South. They turned and made about 3 circles around downtown before heading off to the West. That was cool....talk about some noise..... The most impressive thing I have ever seen was while hunting down in SE Oklahoma. I was up on a ridge above a valley and some B-1's came screaming through the valley.....practicing low level bombing runs I guess....cool as hell.

B1Bs don't do low-level bombing runs. This isn't world war 2 or vietnam where a low-altitude bombing run would ever be required from a $200 mil+ strategic bomber whose sole purpose (at it's inception) was to carry nuclear warheads.

Here it is flying low...

FreAk😀

OWNED!😀

What the hell does that prove? LOL I don't know military aircraft very well, but I understand that planes can fly low or high, (they DO take off and land occasionally 😉) so showing a plane flying low does not disprove that they no longer do low-level bombing. Not agreeing or disagreeing because I wouldn't know, but it's just funny the logic some people take...

The B-1 has evolved from a series of studies in the 1960s into a long-range bomber that can fly at low altitudes and high speeds to penetrate Soviet airspace for extended periods.

Um....yeah. That's it.

Someday maybe you'll have the wisdom to understand the sacrifices made EVERY DAY by the members of the armed services. Until then, keep your fscking sarcasm to yourself.

Exactly... I almost wish for a war on our home soil again to show these anti-war a-holes what war is all about, and what people in other countries deal with every day. It's because of the men and women flying those F-16's that these morons are able to make their moronic comments.

Jeff, you're one of the funniest people on this board. Someone makes a terribly cheesy statement (in fact, at first I thought he was making a joke), and you somehow twist the words "yeah that's it" into an anti-war, anti-America statement. You're good at starting arguments, and making something out of nothing. Relax, buddy.

Furthermore, wishing for a war on American soil is not only moronic, but offensive. Do us a favor: put down the flag for a second and THINK before you speak. You're conservative? That's fine. You're patriotic? Good, me too. But to wish for the deaths of innocent American men, women, and children so you can prove your point is one of the most disgusting statements I think I've ever heard anyone make.

I have these big noisy bastards flying over my college every 45min for a week at a time per month.

I also have one of those ground radar planes flying over every now and then making strange triangular patterns in the sky.

I've seen 2 harriers, 1 F-18, and 1 mid air refueler.

Where do you live? I'm "West of Chi-town" too, but there's no military base around here that I know of...

I don't see the anti-war sentiments in his statement. Nor have I ever seen Fausto make such a comment. If anything, Fausto was just making fun of the cheesiness of his comment.

Cheesy maybe but true though.

NOE flying is probably never going to be used for the vast majority of US aircraft unless doing CAS missions in close proximity to US forces. Fact of the matter is that low altitude is too unpredictable for threats, particularly AAA, and even the mighty A-10 is susceptible to being torn to pieces if flying low and slow. Nevertheless, implying that the B-1 is past its prime is ignoring its most recent successes, lauded even by fighter jocks, in Afghanistan and Iraq. Using satellite aided munitions, one B-1 can attack from 24 to 84 separate targets in one sortie with 2,000 to 500lb bombs. Its legs give it a much wider choice of airfields from which to operate and allows it the flexibility to minimize aerial refueling while maintaining extended loiter. How many A-10s or F/A-18s would it take to accomplish the same mission parameters? Even more importantly, how many additional support aircraft are required to accomplish the same mission, from AR to electronic protection because fighter aircraft are less able to conduct electronic warfare?
Hmm... pop quiz, and choose your answer wisely:

How much do you know about the electronics counter measures of an F/A-18? I was a maintenace tech for 6 years on both the F/A-18 C and Ds. Haven't got my hands on the E and F ( which have even more advance electronics counter measures). So tell me Mr. Expert, how much do you know?

Oh, the F/A-18 may not carry the pay load that the B-1s carry, but it can carry a load. Not only it can deliver the load, but it can also fight it's way out. The B-1s are the ones that need lots of support, I think you got this a little backwards.

I don't think man will ever build a better plane than the F-14's.

Ive had a B1B fly about 250 feet over my head! DAMN that things loud!

Air and Sea Show in Ft. Lauderdale, FL

I just thought of something, the F/A-18s that I'm hearing aren't the original Hornets, these are Super Hornets and they are tremendously loud (i.e. louder than the F-16s). They are so loud that they may not be allowed to stay at NAS Oceana for too much longer. There is a public campaign underway to get rid of them.

To counteract this all the Navy personnel put bumper stickers on their cars/trucks/urban assault vehicles that say "I Love Jet Noise". Who really loves jet noise? 😕
