Just got my application decision email today. damn
Anyone get in who applied this year?

The Committee on Admissions has just completed its Early Action meetings
during which your application for admission was reviewed. After very
careful consideration, we were unable to take a definite action on your
candidacy at this time and therefore have deferred our decision until the
regular spring meetings.

Please be assured that your entire application will be considered again
thoroughly. While it is impossible to predict individual admission
decisions, in recent years students whose applications were deferred have
been admitted at various rates, at times close to those for Regular Action
candidates. We will communicate the Committee's decision to you in April.

We hope you will write to us if you have new information to add to your
application materials. Recent grades or test results, activities, honors,
or other accomplishments would be of interest to the Committee as it
reviews your application again in the spring meetings.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. You have our best
wishes for a rewarding and productive year.

Sincerely,
William R. Fitzsimmons
Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid

I hope you've applied to more than one school... It doesn't sound like they've said NO, just give it some time. You'll love Boston, if you do get accepted.

I remember getting deferred from Dartmouth when I was an HS Sr. (2000). I'm currently at the University of Pittsburgh. Don't give up on the opportunity for Harvard, but don't hold your breath either.

<< Why no monkey icon? >>

Oh but there is a monkey icon. A gorilla, anyways.

oh yes but a gorilla is not the same as a monkey. They may be cousins (genetically speaking) but not the same thing. I want a monkey icon!

Harvard's a good school, but if you don't get accepted don't sweat it too much. What do you want to study, where else did you apply?

i wanna study biology (possibly bioenginnering). I also did an early action to MIT but i have big doubts about getting in there (due to an awful interview). I woulndt even apply to these high selective private schools, but im in a speical program at UC berkeley, which guarantees me a spot there as a freshman (if i choose to go there)

Hmm. Too bad your dad or mom did not go. Then you could get in no matter what your qualifications.

UCSD has the #2 ranked BioEngineering Department in the World wheni was there in 97, i dont know where it is now, but still probably ranked very high.

ya MIT is big on anything to do with science. I also applied to UCSD but i rather go to berkeley (it also has good bioE) because of its location Ya and i hate that kids with parents who went there get better chances of getting in. That pisses the hell out of me.

Berkely is a FINE school, and a much better value. You'll be paying state tuition for a solid, prestigious reputation.
You have to remember, the undergraduate level at top universities are very much revenue generators. The courses may have the great professor's names on them, but you will surely be taught by TAs, and rarely if ever see them. They are to busy caring about the gradute students and the research that is being done with them.

Now, if it was Dartmouth or Princeton, or Swarthmore (or any top lib arts school for that matter), then I'd really be hoping to get in. That's where the learning takes place.

CichliSuite: yes i agree with you, but the difference between Berkeley and Harvard is grade inflation. Harvard has a high grade inflation rate, yet still retains a prestigous aura, while Berkeley just has a prestigous aura. Now on a graduate school scale, a Harvard degree does carry a bit more weight than Berkeley degree, and since harvard has better grade inflation, its easier to get into grad school with a high GPA.

Plus Harvard's campus blows Berkley's outta the water

Boston r0x0rz in general. I dropped Harvard and MIT years ago, my only hopes are UMass Boston or NEU. I assume that everything else will be way too tough for me to get into :D

Ivy's tend to have something against Magnet students though. While they are prepared well for college, statistically they don't do as well in admissions for some reason, when compared to other good schools. I can dig up the reason if you're intrested. There was an article in the Washington Post about it a few weeks ago.
