Damn...Crucial 256meg DDR 2100 just hit $60

wtf, this stuff was in the 40's last night when i checked. $58.99 now. after the discount it's $50, a $10 increase over last night (was at 40$). just bummed cause i didn't get in when it was 25$ or so. guess ill wait and hope it drops. wonder if this stuff is cheaper elsewhere...

The day before Thanksgiving I looked at the price and it was $32 after AT discount. I went back 3 days later to order and found it to be $40. Go back 3 days after my order and I find it to be $50. Though I hated to miss $30, I'm glad I got in before it went up another $10 (per stick!)

Generic is still available for $34 elsewhere. The key is, how much are you willing to pay just for the Crucial name? Heck, you can even get 256 MB Micron PC2100 for $36 on Pricewatch. Why pay $59 for the same Micron memory at Crucial?

First of all, the prices are closer than they appear upon first inspection. With the 16% discount, the price drops to $50. Plus, there is free 2-day shipping. With shipping, the other memory is probably about $40. Now the difference is only $10. Also, Crucial uses a 6-layer PCB for improved stability. Memory is the workhorse of the computer, it is not where you want to skimp. Stability of memory is key to a quality system. The extra money is worth it in my opinion.

1) Micron 128 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM Non-parity 2.5V 6-layer CL=2.5 bought from Cruical,
2) Micron 128 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM Non-parity 2.5V 6-layer CL=2.5 bought elsewhere (saving $10).

The memory is exactly the same memory. Why is that skimping? Why would the SELLER of the item make the ITEM better and give you peace of mind?

Does that mean if I buy my 2L Pepsi from Hy-Vee, I'll have more peace of mind than if I buy the 2L Pepsi from K-Mart?

I'm looking at 256MB, which is a different example, but the first entry that explicitly says "6 layer" that is pulled up by pricewatch.com is $38+$10 shipping. Crucial is $49 including shipping.

If the price difference is less than 5%, I'll always go with Crucial because they are a reputable dealer selling high-quality memory. Beyond that... well, it depends who they are and how big the price difference is.
