Yah. Sam Adams Light is pretty decent stuff. Not too far off the regular Sam. Not many bars seem to carry it though. Amstel is probably the best tasting mainstream light beer. Beats the pants off of Bud, Coors and Miller Light. Not great, but better than what's available.

EDIT: If you want bottled seltzer water marketed as light beer, give Rolling Rock Light a try. :)

As a beer drinker who has tried hundreds of beers(I'm always trying out new stuff) I prefer regular beers as well. However, you must have tainted or skunked Amstel Light. It is clearly one of the better light beers. Either you are high or got a bad batch.

agreed

Also agree. Amstel Light is one of the better light beers that I've had.

I think those of us that like it, like it, because it ACTUALLY tastes like beer (for a light beer i mean).

I loathe Bud and Coors Light, and can *tolerate* Miller Light under the most extreme, tenuous situations.

I prefer Coors' Light to Amsdel light, by a large margin.

Coors light is basically water. One of the worst light beers by far (if you actually care about tasting your beer, that is).

I guess I have a different viewpoint on what makes beer taste "good". I generally dislike the bitter aftertaste of most beers like sam adams or amstel. I prefer coors and budweiser just because they have little to no aftertaste. I can down 10 of those in an hour like soda. Helps me get nice and drunk :). People kept saying the heavy beers and also lagers are acquired tastes and that I'll start to like them after a while. I've been drinking heavily for three years now and I still keep going back to Coors Light or Budweiser for both partying or if I just want something with which to wash down my pizza. I have friends who'll live and die by Yuengling or Heineken and although they're strong they:
a) Fill my stomach after 3 or 4 beers. Seriously this stuff is like bread. Once I down a couple of these I have no room for any other alcohol.
b) Have a really bitter aftertaste.
I'll drink them socially no problem but they're definitely NOT something I want to drink copious quantities of and not expect to puke.

I like Sam Adams Oktoberfest and their Winter Lager, I may have to try out their Light beer sometime. I wonder if food has much bearing on how your beer tastes. I had some Lime Chipolte Pasta or something from California Pizza Kitchen right before I had a couple Amstels. The lime may have affected my tastebuds causing me to think it sucked left nut hairs.

Oh well, I have 22 left, hopefully I'll have a better experience tonight...

Amstel Lite is about the only lite beer that I have had that does not taste like @ss. Seeing as how you like dark lager though that is not surprising. Sam Adams Lite would probably be alright then or if New Castle made one...

I dont get that argument though- for me, I have to drink a whole hell of a lot of light beers to get wasted, where as I could just drink far less good beers that are around 6% alchy, and end up drinking half as much beer, defeating the purpose of a light beer.
