I got these for $379.99 each, about $40 cheaper than Newegg......so I decided to order two, and use my new SLI motherboard!!!
I could've got the Ultra's, but they were $479 each, (still $100 cheaper than newegg) but they take alot more power and generate alot more heat....)
Anyone got SLI 6800 GTs wanna comment about how they run? I've seen tons of reviews, but wanna hear first hand....
🙂 😀
Oh baby...... 🙂 I can't hardly wait!
UPDATED: TEST INFO
Setup:
Setup was very easy, basically plug the damn things in and you are good to go. Once in Windows, the Nvidia Software detects the SLI and tells you to click here to turn it on, and reboot...
3DMark Results
Using Stock 66.93 drivers from nvidia's website my results were:
3D Mark 2003: 18640
3D Mark 2005: 8600
This is on a AMD 3500+ running at stock 2.2ghz, and Video cards running at 350/1000 = Stock
GAMES
I initially had a lot of trouble running games. The screen was all giggly and messed up, I did some research, and found that DVI-D just isn't ready for primetime yet.
After installing the VGA converter and plugging into my 20inch Dell VGA input, everything was excellent.....
I had NO issues running at 1680x1050 (20inch Wide LCD) with 6x AA and 16x AF in Half Life 2..
The effects and graphics were absolutely STUNNING........
Concerns....
Nvidia's drivers suck ass right now.....hopefully they will get their **** together and make a quality driver release that supports SLI
The overall design of the SLI setup puts alot of extra heat on the 2nd card......my temps averaged 3-8 degree's higher on the 2nd card..........
Note: I never reached above 70c on either card while playing games or 3dMark Tests......well below the 135c cutoff
Conclusions
For $760.....(my cost on dual EVGA 6800 GT PCI-E) I feel this is a worth investment for the avid to hard core gamer.
It gives me MORE time to enjoy future games without having to upgrade my Video Solution anytime soon.
The quality of the EVGA cards along with the 2 year warranty, makes me feel confident in my purchase.....
Along with the extra cool factor.......SLI seems to me, to be a fun and worthy purchase for any hardcore gamer.
