Spread hay thinly over the seeded area. Discourages the birds, also helps retain moisture. It gradually disappears into the new lawn.

This works great. But, don't use hay in a lawn, use straw. Hay has seeds of broader-leafed forage grasses that will look awful with fine turf grasses. Hay works great for pasture plantings.

Laced 1/4 of the seeds with rat poison. Should do the job quick and you will have plenty of carcasses fertilizing your lawn.
