Hey, we're getting the HUGE black ants too! I'm near Cleveland...Originally posted by: DanJ
I'm finding HUGE black ants this year, far larger then I have seen in the past. Plus they essentially took over my garage; I just don't go in there anymore. Gotta roll a bomb in there I guess.
To add insult about 50% of the ones in the garage are of the winged variety. And that is just wrong.

The thing that's worked for me is "Terro" liquid bait.
The first time I used it was when I bought a 1970 Buick LeSabre for $50. The thing hadn't been driven for over a year and had lots of ants living in it.
A few Terro baits later and BINGO... no more ant farm!
BTW, I changed all the fluids in the car, fixed the dropped down rear window, tuned it up and it was one of the best cars I'd ever owned. Until the old lady in the Caddy ran that red light.
R.I.P. Old Buick... How I loved thee

This Terro stuff sounds very effective (from the descriptive user comments on their site)... I'll even try this. One thing though - seeing the infestation toward the bait when they come take the liquid drop, isn't that a concern if you're baiting indoors ? People were saying there were lines and lines of ants coming for the goodies. I'd hate to see 50-100 black ants come into my kitchen.Originally posted by: SpecialEd

Yes, this stuff works great. I just used some on my house last week. My housemates and I had a huge nest in the attic. It had drones and everything. A few days later, no ants.

Wasn't that stuff banned?

Just got back from Home Depot. They've banned diazinon here in NY and the guy said most states down the east coast as well. I had to settle for Ortho's replacement product for it - BUG-B-GON with some other chemical.
