Damn!...and I thought *I* had a decent tolerance for beer.

England centre Mike Tindall came agonisingly close to former Australian cricketer David Boon's record of 54 cans of lager on a flight between Australia and England, it was revealed on Tuesday.
UK tabloid The Mirror reported that the Bath centre consumed "close to fifty" cans on the rugby world champions' flight back from Australia.

Said the Mirror:

"The moustachioed opener (Boon) was respected as much for his capacity to consume the amber nectar as for his prowess with the bat and walked straight as a die across the Heathrow tarmac after his record session.

"Out of respect for their team-mate, official figures were not made available by the other England players who joined in the fun but an insider revealed that Tindall was close to 50 when the curtain fell.

"You can rest assured David Boon's record is still standing," said Tindall's centre partner Will Greenwood.

"Tinds had a real go at it but we wanted to leave the Aussies with at least one title to hang on to."

The Mirror also said Tindall returned with the best anecdote after the tournament.

"When asked what was going through his mind when he swept Aussie captain George Gregan off his feat, he said: 'I just thought, He's not very heavy. Where should I put him?'"

That's a long-ass flight, but that's still an huge volume of beer......almost 5 gallons assuming each can was 12 oz.

From expedia, they range from 22 hours to 33 hours.

Well that's easy possible for a 30 hour flight. I've had 30+ beers in 18 hours before and was surprisingly ok. Drinking over a long period of time is much different than having like 12 beers in 4 hours. I want to accept this challenge. :)

Okay, go buy a pony keg and drain it by yourself. Just make sure you have 911 programmed into your phone first.

A pony keg is usually 7.5 gallons. How about if I do two cases of beer instead. I realize that it isn't quite 50 but I should be some props if I can complete the feat anyway right? And I get 30 hours or what?

Better yet: set up a webcam and start a thread to document your feat. Observing the decreasing quality of your posts over the 24 hours should be quite amusing. :D

so 2 cases would be ok as opposed to a pony keg which is 7.5 gallons (or roughly 80 cans). I think the article said he was nearing 50 so 48 would be nearing fifty.......could I die from this?

When I was in college there was a drinking game (a drinking challenge actually) called the 100 Beers Club. Like Cardinal Puff, it was a "pass once, member for life" deal. Pretty simple game really, you had from midnight Thursday to midnight Sunday to consume 100 12oz beers. If you stay awake for the entire time it works out to a beer every 43 minutes, but a more realistic number is to sleep for about 12 hours total, leaving you 60 for drinking. To make it on that schedule it's a beer ever 36 minutes, less than 2 per hour. To hardcore college drinkers it seems really easy, most guys approach it as a cakewalk. I'd estimate that fewer than 2% of the guys who tried to do it succeeded. The first 10 hours are easy. The next 10 you start to question your commitment. If you make it past that you probably never want to see another beer as long as you live. Don't write off this achievment simply because it was a long flight. Running a mile is easy, running a marathon isn't. Maintaining a certain pace short term is a lot different from maintaining the same pace over many many hours. This guy deserves a gold medal and a new liver.

That being said, 100 beers in 72 hours would be MUCH, MUCH harder than "close to fifty" beers in 30 hours if you ask me. And I can see where most people couldn't do the 100 beers club, you need to sleep sometime and after you wake up from your nap I guarentee the last thing you are going to want to do is drink more beer....heh.

Good god. That's like the grand daddy of the century club - 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes.

I can drink 31273918 beers in 4 seconds.

Those guys are wussies =P

Actually, I'd really like to try the 100beer club thing, i've down a 30 pack of beer in one night before, about a 12 hour period, and would have continued on had I had more beer. Albeit it was lightbeer though.

As long as I don't piss out my asshole the next morning I consider it a night of successful beer drinking!

Figure, you will have to drink 2 to 3 beers a hour for 25 hours. I am convinced you can do it so there is no real need for you to take the challenge...
