Most domestic car manufacturers should reduce their fleets to cut costs while focusing on improving fuel efficiency, quality, and reliability. Imports are kicking their asses on all those fronts.

GM is making some pretty good moves at this segment, along with Ford. The Focus and Cobalt are both decent choices with 35mpg (I actually averaged 41mpg on a round trip to Knoxville with the AC on virtually the entire trip). GM is launching the Volt soon, which is very interesting. Ford is bringing the Fiesta (subcompact) that should be able to hit 40mpg in the basic version.

With Chrysler off the table, and ~1.5m units off the table yearly, it really cleans up the domestic marketplace.

One thing is pretty sure, Chrysler will probably cease to exist as we know it, and even the most optimistic outlook for them (team up with Renault/Nissan) still spells a drastic reduction in production from them. More likely, they'll be bought out, and sold piecemeal, with only a couple things surviving (merge Jeep into Hummer division, etc).

chrysler is not public so that doesn't matter.
i like the GM move. I'd buy some stock too if i had some $.

AMD is so full of fail it's not even funny anymore.

The merger sucked. Now the "split" is going to do what?

I mean, come on, just admit that you're a second rate company that got lucky while Intel made a tactical blunder. You won a battle but lost the war and are now back to your second-rate spot.

Long term? AMD stays this low for a very long time.

you're either brilliant or a moron.

I'd go with the later.

Stocks don't stay low forever you know ;) Company will either bounce back a bit or go under completely. AMD? They have a pretty good chance of dying. GM? I seriously doubt they're going under.

Anyway I'm not risking anything that I can't afford to lose. I'll post back when I sell. If you want to call me a moron, that's your right, but I think it reflects negatively upon yourself.

So, at what point will you get in though? It was just under $3 earlier today. And it'll close about $3.03 today down yet another 7%.

Yeah, I bumped an old thread, but I've been bumping AMD stock threads for several years now. I am trying to find a pulse for their stock. This one seems as limp as any that I've looked at.

Oh, I'm old enough to have seen plenty of big companies fall. I have little doubt that AMD is standing at the edge of that right this moment.

GM though, with Chrysler shrinking/dying, and them making huge strides forward in quality and fuel efficient vehicles, I see making somewhat of a comeback.

Again, I could be completely wrong, but I'm not betting anything big on this. If GM and AMD are 100% worthless tomorrow, it would only be a minor disappointment to me.

Id say at <$2.00 the risk vs. reward is high enough for me to gamble on it. Maybe 2 grand at most, which isn't much to lose but if AMD happens to make it, then I could see it getting back to $10 in a couple years. Same goes for ford. Although AMD is alot more likely to go under than ford.

GE, TM, AXP, LUK, and others all pay good dividends, and will be back up eventually. Those are the ones i'll put more money in.

Maybe they'll spin ATI back off into its own company again and it'll survive...otherwise, I couldn't care less if AMD bites the bullet. I've never owned an AMD processor...evar...and at this rate, I'll never have to.
I've owned two ATI graphics processors in the past 10-12 years. One was their original "All-in-Wonder" 2 Mb board in about 87-88, the other is my current 850XT-PE board, which isn't too bad. (it seemed better under XP than with Vista, but still does what I need it to do.

On Monday I'm probably going to cut my losses on AMD, BP and VLO...lost almost 1/2 of value in them.

Oh wells, going to sell them and get some shares of QQQQ while the market's down.

If this company makes it through this bleak period and manages to come out as a profitable company in a couple years, this is an amazing buy-in time. Or, you could lose everything.

I feel for investors who bought this anytime recently.

I don't see how AMD could possibly make it out of this. I hardly ever hear of prebuilts supplying anything but Core 2 Duos, Quads, or Atoms and its not like everyone that is part of a tech site has been buying AMD for price or performance lately like back in the A64 days.

This along with the entire GPU market floundering.. I would think AMD is the one least able to survive to bleed money for long as opposed intel or nvidia.
