<< Honestly, I think the lectures for most of the classes here are useless. I remeber back when I was taking Lin Alg & Diff Eqs, my midterm scores went up when I stopped going to class. The only purpose the profs serve is just to confuse us. >>

That's the same for alot of my EE classes. I don't know why I keep going to class, I don't learn anything and just get bored to death. Maybe my approach is all wrong, I should probably just forget about going to class and just reading all the chapters instead.

Hahaha, why read the chapters at all?

Dude, forget school. Go take a semester off. You just sound like you're burned out. I knew a guy who joined the army for a semester as a reservist just to take a break from engineering. I'm not suggesting any longterm commitments but ever consider just dropping a semester and working at a resort up in the rockies or in the carribean?

As far as L&S CS being easy, that's bull man. My roommate didn't get in with a 3.39. No joke. He's a cog. sci major now. Go figure. Berkeley does suck as an educational institution however it's rep lies more in its research than its teachers. That's my biggest complaint about this school. Too much money pumped into labs and not enough into actual classrooms and student housing.

Sounds good, it'd be fun to work in a mountain resort for a while, but how the heck would I find a job like that?

Bingo. Being 100+ on a waitlist for a class in inexcusable. Seriously, the students are treated like an afterthought. I mean why the hell is it necessary to have it so hard to get into business and L&S CS? I mean you already got into Cal, why TF do you have to get 3.5+ gpas to get into the major? Seriously, hire more lecturers or something.

Yep! I totally know the feeling. this was my state of mind about 3 years ago. Funny thing happens when you get out (and u work for awhile), you actually miss it! I mean the teachers still suck n all and it is a lot nicer having some cash flow, but the college environment is 10X better than the "working world". I am going back to school now for a masters and i can appreciate the material alot better. Just hang in there and dont let them beat you down, just keep fighting!

i felt the same way, and still kinda feel the same way now...i'm one of those where my major (computer science) has nothing to do with my job at all...the degree just served as a stepping stone for me to get a job and step up from there...i never plan to go back to school though...if i do, it'll just be to sit in classes and meet ppl...hahaha.... :p

just in response to the triple digit waitlist for 1b, was that thru phase 1, cause i've been here around 4 years and even if it's in the triple digits the class is usually so large you'll get in

Most of the stuff they teach you in school is useless in my opinion. When will I ever need to learn Calc, and how is solving for the derivative going to help me in the IT field. Now, while I know it's important to be well-rounded, but that notion is BS in my opinion. Who can admit that they remember the crap they learn while they were in HS or maybe even in college. Come on now, Im pretty pissed when I'm forced to take Music History as a class. Offer me more networking class, and not these dumb humantities stuff!

Just just my two-cents.

<< Have to retake it now :|:|

F*CK i hate going to school. I've gone to school for f*cking 16 years of my life, my god, how many god damn ways can you rehash the same sh!t?? I'm losing motivation because this crap is so damn boring, the professors are boring, the material is boring, my classmates are boring, every GOD DAMN PART of education is f*cking boring my ass to tears.

Why the hell do I have to go through this bullsh!t, which I will forget 90% of, to be employable? It's not even THAT hard, it's just incredibly tedious beyond all belief, to the point where I have basically zero interest in this crap. What a sh!tty system this is. :|:|

Wow. That is exactly how I feel... I'm currently 2nd year Comp. Sci. in Australia - first year wasn't too bad, but by second semester my attendance was less than admirable. I found more and more reasons not to go to into Uni every morning. Now I just totally messed up this first semester of second year, hardly went to any lectures, barely did any real study... I've truely lost my motivation to learn, at least from that University, at this stage in my life.

I'm planning to take 6 months off (maybe extend it to 12 months) to get out into the "real world" and earn some money. No idea what kind of job I'm be aiming for, I'm not really expecting much to be honest.

Also like yourself, I basically blitzed through high school. Never found it difficult or stressing, always came out with good marks. But with University, my marks are average at best (for the subjects I actually pass :frown: ) - but it's certainly not that I'm finding the work difficult. I think I've just lost my focus.

Hopefully after a break I'll be able to return to Uni and get my piece of paper so that I can get a cushy job :p

But you've gotta keep things in perspective - it's not the end of the world. That old adage "You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it" (or similar :)) is true. But the trick is finding something which you feel passionate about... that's where I'm at.

Hope things work out for you.

[Edit] speeling ;)

Outersquare: I was in the same position you are, hating school. I finally managed to graduate August of 2000 with a BS in Electrical Engineering at Georgia Tech. After all the trials and hard work, it was worth it in the end. There were many times that I felt like throwing it away, but managed to keep it together.

Outersquare - Dude listen, been there, done that. After leaving college, I freaken' miss it like no one's business (Irvine, econ grad here). It sounds cliche but school's what u make of it. When I was in school, I basically d1cked around and barely made it out. Point is, as bad as it seemed at times, it's WAY better than working in the real world. Work sucks dude, nothing beats school. Frat parties, kicking it til 6 in the morning with the homies (or some chick) on a Monday night, sh1t like that u'll never be able to do again. Everyone whose working (at least who doesn't own their own business) would prolly agree with me that once u get out of school, it's wake up at 6, go to work, come home, have dinner, rinse, repeat. See? School ain't so bad. U're prolly just pissed cause u did poorly but u know what? In the grand scheme of things, having to retake that class isn't gonna change u're life. Heck, if I could I woulda failed all my classes my fifth year so I could stick around for a sixth...
