Dammit Ford. What are you thinking?

Come on, Ford. What the HELL are you thinking with this monstrously ugly crap. You took styling cues from one of the most reviled vehicles in the Ford Line - the Flex. Then you added a set of horrible $bling$bling wheels and stupid doors that totally miss WHY gull wing doors are actually useful.

Then you stick an out-of-touch stuffed suit in front the crowd to tell them how cool it is. The gasps from the audience were gasps of disbelief at the stupidity.

I'll take steps to disembark this crazy train and disavow any knowledge of it's existence at once.

That is awesome. The hypno-toad rims really set it off. Not one, not two, but three steps up. Might need a railing for it to pass code inspection.

The interior is a bit disappointing though. Needs more flatscreens

The wheels are awful (look like a Hot Wheels car), but the gullwings are kinda cool on a big SUV like that.

FWIW, I hated the Flex at first but it grew on me (especially when I saw what tuners were able to do with it). It was unique without being outrageous.

Thats awesome. Do you have any idea how awesome that would be for loading things into the car? Ignoring the ugly wheels, i think the doors and steps are a cool concept.

I actually kind like the wheels! The only problem with the gull wing doors is garages/tight spaces. I know Tesla has figured this out with the Model X, but the Navigator is much taller/bigger overall

The Flex is a fantastic vehicle and the best SUV Ford makes. That said, I am not a huge fan of this, but you can't argue that it is progressive. It is a concept vehicle...

That's too many steps. Now it needs one of those motorized chairs that old people put in their homes to help them get up and down stairs easily.

And you know you secretly want one. :D

Automated doors...perhaps to attract minivan buyers. Oh, there are those super expensive sports cars that have them too, but that is a whole different price range. The Flex is already low, so no need for steps.

Oh, as far as mu personal opinion, Ford will never make a good-looking car. I would never buy their non-truck based vehicles for aesthetics. But that is just me.

I don't know anyone who hates the Flex.
I know lots of folks who considered them and everyone I talked to about has positive things to say with about them.
Generally it comes down to not being able to find a deal on them or someone in the relationship is absolutely locked on to the idea that they want a "SUV" like their friend has.

As for the concept,
Fusion picked up some Aston
This concept picked up some Range Rover
Ford is just walking around Europe and grabbing design elements

I think it is just awful looking. I'd never consider one in a million years.

And FTR, my wife and I are considering replacing her car with a Lexus GX460 this summer.

I like the Ford Explorer (even though it's one of the most boring SUVs) This looks ok, but obviously will not (and really probably should not) make it into production.

Oh, and it has gullwing doors. The crowd audibly oohed and aahed when that feature was demonstrated at a preview event in New York, but those are purely for show. They won't be on the production model, Galhotra said, and they're meant to demonstrate the spacious cabin. "The nature of the vehicle is very important ... and it's a great way to showcase that interior," he said.

I get that it's a concept - but there are a lot of concept cars out there that simply look great.

I'm going to have to argue that a stupid looking concept is just that - stupid. Why waste all the man-hours and time to create a monstrosity, even if it is only a concept?

3 Steps? Stupid. How about 1 automatically actuating step that you get can SET the height on yourself?

Gull wing doors? Stupid. Do a 4-bar linkage door or something else, not a retreaded and useless idea.

Those wheels....are just.... ouch.

Nope. I'm sticking with the idea that this was a huge lost opportunity to showcase ACTUAL ideas and gauge their reception in the public while improving the Ford image. The saddest part is that I work for Ford - but I'd never be able to say this to the higher-ups because of all the kool-aid drinking going on. You should see our internal comment boards. It's like a bunch of cheerleaders without an ounce of critical reasoning skills.

I think it's a fine concept. The design language is good. And nothing wrong to trying some crazy ideas like those doors on a concept. We all know the actual car will just be an Explorer with regular doors and that design language on the grill and lights. At least you get to see something different on a concept.

Just curious. Why would you make a car like this if you have no plans to produce it?

It's definitely not a looker, but what huge vehicle is? Rather than appear bloated, and over-styled like the hideous Oddyssey, it's boxy. I don't mind that....the utilitarian functionality is awesome. I guess if you are shopping for a 7-seater with cargo room, why would looks be the first criteria? They are all rather ugly. :)

Those steps designed for leprechauns? I can't see anything but wipeouts and broken hips and tailbones coming from steps designed like that.
