Damaged UPS - would you plug it in?

Shipped an APC 2200 RM UPS the other day from my office to home (1100 miles apart). Someone at FedEx decided to play hockey with it along the way and the chassis is all dented and faceplate/LED panel destroyed, but batteries and internals appear intact.

I think I understand you (NO was clear enough) that amps from lead-acid batteries could throw me across the room.

DO you think APC will fix it for you? or replace it for a fee.. how about fedex.. they did damage your equipment after all.. what are they saying?

No.
No.
AND NO.

A couple of years ago lightning hit a tree next to our house. Two computers in house. One was on an APC surge surpressor-it got fried. The other was on a Blackout Buster UPC ($50 or so). It survived, even though the network hub (sitting on top of the computer case) got fried so bad it scorched the computer's paint.

I stupidly kept using the UPC until I could get around to replacing it. A day or so later I happen to notice it was smoking. Probably would have burnt the house down if I wasn't around to notice it.

The prior poster's comments about lead-acid batteries has a lot of merit also.

APC won't fix it - it's out of warranty, although they made it sound like they might help me out if it were a little newer, and they don't sell parts. They did point me to their trade-up program whereby they'll give 40% discount off new unit of equal or greater VA to any UPS from any vendor in any condition you return to them - and they even pick up the return shipping, sweet considering FedEx charged me $117 to ship that puppy with their cheapest plan and my corp discount.
FedEx is investigating internally, as there was a status scan Saturday stating "box busted, computer damaged" and delivery driver logged it as improper handling. Unfortunately, I failed to take their insurance and their initial response is refund shipping costs and $100. Hopefully, as a medium sized corp customer, they might do better for the sake of good business, because as noted, they did damage it and I know how well it was packed.
