Hey Larry, did you end up buying some of those boards?
OP, make sure you're using cas 2.5 rated memory for that board. It doesn't like the cheaper cas 3 stuff (props to Larry, btw). Those boards will run older Kentsfield quads as well (Q6600).
I didn't buy any of the 3BTech boards yet. I spent my spare money this month already. Maybe if they still have them next month.
Anyways, charity cases are hard. I do some charity PC work as well occasionally.
I've already been stiffed twice by people that I sold computers to on credit. I didn't mean for them to become charity cases, especially not with parts from my money.
I've got some lady in my apt complex that has an old Dell with 512MB of RAM and XP on there, that BADLY needs a reformat. But she claims she has no money. She has a nice cell phone and a flat-screen TV though. Things that make you ponder. (I told her for $20 I could throw in 2x512MB of DDR RAM for her. Still "no money".)

I looked at the pics but they are so blurry I cannot tell anything about where or what the damage is.As for that socket though no one has fixed one here???
Glad to know I'm not the only sucker. One time, I built a computer from older/spare parts (perfectly good) for my sister's neighbor because she wanted a computer for her daughter to use for school and stuff but they were on a fixed income. The woman's husband was disabled and took early retirement due to a major stroke, could barely get around and had some speech difficulties. I thought what the hell, I've got a bunch of older computer parts just collecting dust.I fixed her friends computer a piece of crap IMO a Gateway spent many hours installing thier crap restore 5 disks backed up many GB of piks Movies and docs and she did not offer me a red cent I used to make good change doing this and at least get their old parts to build systems and sell them!![]()

So I built them a Pentium III system that was worth an honest $250 (at the time). Even a brand new $350 computer would not have been much faster or had more features. I charged them $75 for the genuine Windows XP license and $25 for everything else. When I told her $100, she looked at me as though I had slapped her. Wow, that much? OK, can I pay you $50 this month and $50 next month? Sure, that's OK. It took three months to get the other $50. However, in the meantime, she leased a brand new Lexus and I found-out she had went to a casino for two days with friends. I'm not kidding, a new Lexus!
But I still wasn't done being a glutton for punishment. Over the course of the next year, I ended-up reformatting the system and restoring from backups TWICE because of viruses, malware, and other user-caused issues (thank gawd I made a system restore image the first time). I only charged them $25 each time, unless it was a quick fix that only took 10 minutes.
Even my poor sister got ensnared in all this. They seemed to figure that since we were related, my sister would be glad to provide them free technical support. My sister was over there a dozen times helping them with various issues like can't get printer working, internet not working, so on and so forth. Oh and subsequently learned that her casino trips with friends are a quarterly event, not some rarity or exception.
I hear that. Those guys must be the dumping ground for Asrock, lol. Every so often a Dual-VSTA or 4Core will appear, and they don't last long.

I bought the conroe for myself I have a Pentium 4 3.0 for that lady and a used HSF and that board she wants everything free I`m not gonna buy her that board and also get her an AGP card! I might be a little greedy when it comes to money I could be buying better stuff for myselfD: I fixed her friends computer a piece of crap IMO a Gateway spent many hours installing thier crap restore 5 disks backed up many GB of piks Movies and docs and she did not offer me a red cent I used to make good change doing this and at least get their old parts to build systems and sell them!![]()
