Im curious as to what is the possible damage that running regular 3-3-3 ram @ 2-2-2 could do to a computer. Would it just be a harmless lockup? Or something more serious...

If its completely stable, and you aren't oc'ing it much passed it's rated speed, its pretty safe. if it's specified for cas3 at the speed, and it runs perfectly at cas2, then its good to keep. but go back when you lose the least bit of stability.

edit: i'm running my 7.5ns ram at 133cas2, rated at up to 133cas3.

Don't worry, it won't hurt the memory circuits to run it faster than it's designed for.

So the answer is: Yes any lockups will be harmless!
