I will be moving to Dallas June 1st. I am thinking of moving to either Irving, Las Colinas, Valley Ranch, or Coppell. Anyone have any advice?

w3rd.

Valley Ranch seems to be the nicest area out of all those places. I don't know why in particular you picked those areas - to be closer to work, and what your budget is on housing. It kind of blends in a little bit with Irving and Coppell. All in all they're all relatively similar - I just picked Valley Ranch b/c it has the better reputation.

If you're willing to drop a significant amount, Frisco would be a nice area to live in. It's booming, still in the process of expanding nicely, a very very nice area overall, but it's limited by that POS 2 lane highway known as 121. Allen is also a nice area to live in - extremely cheap housing for what you get (an ex and one of my good friends both live there, it's amazing the quality of the house for the price), but it's a little bit out of the way. (Up 75 - about 20 minutes from Downtown Dallas)

Plano is for the uber rich if you're that. Porsches, Ferraris, and Vipers are all common fare vehicles.

Dallas is improving, we have a light rail system that's not bad, you might want to stay off of the South runs after dark though.

Dart Light Rail System

Ft. Worth is working on a rail system, it'll be Ft Worth Area Rapid Transit (FART) j/k😀

DAM, where will you be working?

Wife & I live ~30 miles S of Dallas & commute to avoid all that is Dallas...

(I'm another Dallas peep)

i will be working at Las Colinas so I want to be close to work. So do you recommend any apt complexes in particular?

Not really, don't get in that part of town very often.

Rule of thumb is to go to the complexes during the middle of the day & don't rent there if you see middle aged men wandering around during the middle of the day...

I live in Coppell. It is really nice. You can work in Dallas or the mid cities with a bearable commute to either. I actually work in Fort Worth. Super nice clean area, lots of parks, nice houses, good schools, and you don't have to worry about crime. I like it...

DAM - I believe wvryn lives in Irving/Las Colinas area, he should be able to hook you up with the names of a nice complex or two. There's a few off of Beltline and MacArthur before 635 that are in great areas.

I miss Texas. 🙁 Omaha isn't any cheaper than San Antonio was. Not that SA is expensive as compared to Austin or Dallas/FW. But now I'm in a new place...don't know anyone...and it's windy as FCK here!! :disgust: And fields, fields, FIELDS! Everywhere are huge fields with neatly rowed rows of....plant life. A farmer, I ain't.

I grew up in the Dakotas, suck it up😀

Go shoot sumpthin' hunting up there is better than you'll find in many places. Grab a Wally World shotgun some ammo & some six packs (BTW, distance on the plains is measured in six packs)...Lincon is 2 six packs, etc...

Pheasant season this fall dude.... I'm jealous.

Also, it's a great place to buy a dirt bike/dual purpose bike & play.

There are some really bad parts of Plano... Certainly not an entirely wealthy area.... Try Highland Park.

I live in Colleyville, in the midcities. http://www.city-data.com/city/Colleyville-Texas.html

I work in North Dallas on 635, about a 40 minute drive there and back.

I really hate Frisco and Flower Mound... New development, too many people for the facilities and roads available. It's truly awful. You're packed in there with so many other people. And the highways to get to it are choked with cars.

Yea East Plano isn't exactly wealthy street, but West Plano (Willow Bend) is pretty much where it's all at. The president of the company I work for lives in Highland Park - I guess that would be the wealthiest of the wealthiest.

But yea Frisco is awful. 121 is the biggest bottleneck - if they can open that sh!t up to 3/4 lanes each way it'd be much better. AFAIK, it's just a big service road as it is right now, which is why there's traffic lights on the "highway". FM isn't too too bad, it just gets congested with Lewisville traffic.

A couple weeks after I first got my Lighting, I was up there in Frisco visiting some relatives, and on my way back, I pull up at one of those lights on 121 where it's 4 lanes wide. To my left, a Dodge Viper, to my right, a Camaro SS and a Plymouth Prowler. I had no idea Prowlers were sooooo slow before that moment. I bet that guy in the Viper is somewhere on his boards saying, "I had no idea Lightnings were soooo slow before that moment."

So yeah, that's the only good thing ever to come of Frisco\Flower Mound.

Those are all pretty nice areas except for Irving, which has its crappy areas. If I was to move from my current house in Fort Worth, I'd move to one of those areas your're considering too, smack dab in the middle of the DFW metroplex. Most importantly, there's a Fry's right there 🙂

Same here except I moved all the way out to Wash. DC. 🙁 You might want to check out Fort Worth. It's a great city!
